๐ŸŒก๏ธ Temps Are Rising โ€” Stay Safe Near the Water This Weekend and Beyond

With temperatures expected to climb significantly over the coming days, the Cities of Snoqualmie and North Bend are urging residents and visitors to use extreme caution near rivers, lakes, and waterways. Despite the summer-like heat, mountain-fed rivers in the Snoqualmie Valley remain dangerously cold and fast-moving.

Even experienced swimmers can be caught off guard by cold-water shock. When a person enters cold water, muscles can seize and breathing becomes involuntary and rapid โ€” significantly increasing the risk of drowning. Combined with a strong current, cold-water incapacitation can be deadly within minutes.

In addition to cold temperatures and swift currents, submerged hazards such as logs and rocks pose serious risks, including the danger of tripping and becoming trapped.

A few quick reminders:
๐Ÿฆบ Wear a life jacket โ€” even strong swimmers benefit
๐Ÿ‘ฏ Never swim alone, and let someone onshore know your plans
๐Ÿ‘€ Keep young children within arm's reach at all times
๐Ÿšซ Avoid alcohol/drugs near water
๐ŸŒŠ Know river conditions before floating or swimming

The Snoqualmie Splash Pad and Si View Community Center pool are great family-friendly options to beat the heat.

๐Ÿ“ข Sign Code Enforcement Update
Following a legal review, Mayor Mayhew has issued updated guidance on enforcement of the City's Sign Code. The City has begun a formal revision process for the Sign Code, which will go through the Planning Commission before consideration by City Council.

While that process is underway, the City will resume enforcement of specific sign placement restrictions. Enforcement of other right-of-way signage (parking strips, planting strips, unpaved shoulders) remains paused.

Residents and business owners are asked to make sure their signage complies with these placement rules.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Signs in the affected locations need to be removed by Monday, June 15, 2026, or they will be subject to removal by the City.

On this day in 1903, Snoqualmie was officially incorporated. That makes it the oldest city in the Snoqualmie Valley. Before that, the town was platted as "Snoqualmie Falls" way back in 1889.

A lot has changed in 123 years โ€” but how much do you know your Snoqualmie history?
