Last week our sixth graders were transported back to ancient Greece. From Zeus and Athena to Poseidon and Artemis, students took on the personas of legendary deities and introduced their divine alter egos to classmates through creative presentations. To help tell their stories, students designed impressive posters and detailed dioramas highlighting their god’s powers, symbols, family connections, and famous myths. Many went the extra mile by bringing props, wearing costumes, and fully embracing their characters.

This engaging project challenged students to research mythology, practice public speaking, and think creatively while bringing ancient history to life in a memorable way.

We had so much fun showing our soon-to-be sixth graders around the school at Eagle for a Night! Our incoming students and their families were treated to tours and Otter Pops, along with musical performances by our band, while getting to meet our principals, counselors, and educators. Thanks to the student leaders who guided tours and provided info about all our current clubs and organizations, representatives from the SMS PTA and Music Boosters, our wonderful staff members who were on hand to answer questions, and all of the Eagles who worked so hard behind the scenes to make this evening such a great introduction to SMS.

Students in Mr. Gegwich’s science class recently put a delicious twist on Earth science by using Oreo cookies to model the layers of the Earth and explore plate tectonics.

In this hands-on activity, the top cookie represented the lithosphere, the cream filling represented the asthenosphere, and the bottom cookie represented the mesosphere. Using their cookie models, students investigated how Earth's tectonic plates move and interact.

As they manipulated the cookie layers, students demonstrated the three major types of plate boundaries: divergent boundaries, where plates move apart; convergent boundaries, where plates collide; and transform boundaries, where plates slide past one another. These movements help shape our planet and are responsible for many geological features and events.

This engaging activity gave students a memorable way to visualize complex Earth science concepts while seeing firsthand how the layers beneath our feet are constantly in motion. Learning has never been so sweet!

🎓 Extra Eighth Grade Celebration Tickets? We Can Use Them!

As we prepare to celebrate our eighth graders on June 10, we know some eighth-grade families may have extra tickets they no longer need.

If your family has unused tickets for the Eighth Grade Celebration, please return them to the school office as soon as possible. Returned tickets will be redistributed to families who would like additional tickets so more loved ones can attend this special milestone event.

We appreciate your help in making sure as many family members as possible have the opportunity to celebrate our students' accomplishments.

Thank you for your cooperation and support as we get ready to honor the Eighth Grade Class of 2026!

Last week, our seventh-grade choir and band students traded their classrooms for the charming streets of Leavenworth, where they spent the day sharing their musical talents in Washington’s famous Bavarian village.

Visitors and locals alike were treated to outstanding performances from our talented musicians, whose hard work and dedication were on full display. The trip gave students the opportunity to perform in a unique setting, gain valuable performance experience, and represent SMS with pride.

When they weren't making music, students enjoyed exploring Leavenworth’s shops, sights, and mountain scenery, making memories with friends before heading back to Snoqualmie.

Bravo to our seventh-grade musicians for a day filled with music, adventure, and unforgettable experiences!
