Welcome home. After 40 years of family work, my father is finally getting around to coming out of Rural Washington and coming online.
Robert E Patton III began this sanctuary in honour of his Father, the late Robert E Patton II, after being discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard Icebreaker 'Staten Island' from Antarctica to Seattle in the 1960s.
With a passion for sustainable food and farming, and a love for nature, conservation and wildlife, he ran Canyon Park Trout Farm, before venturing out to start his own homestead, sanctuary. With a background primarily in trout farming and pisciculture, he had a vision to create a safe space for Disabled Veterans (like himself) to hike, enjoy nature, relax, fish, shoot, share good times, and be loved and remembered for their service to America and the US Military.
His Father, Robert E. Patton II, was a retired Military NCO who served in WWII, the Cold War, and the Korean War. He started in the US Army and then transferred to the US Air Force, where he served as a Staff Sergeant in the 1950s, just after the ban on African Americans joining was lifted. He held a lifelong love for Germany and also loved Japan and the Japanese people.
He died peacefully at my father's house in Seattle, Washington on 24 August 1995 and was cremated and planted as a Japanese maple at my father's sanctuary.
We hope you are encouraged by our family posts, updates and tributes.
