Firefighter Friday!

Today, we honor LC Ferguson, a cornerstone of the Camps Volunteer Fire Department since 1977. Throughout the years, LC has worn many hats—Fireman, AST. Chief, Chief, Sec. and Tres., and a pivotal figure on the Board of Directors. His wealth of experience and extensive training make him an unparalleled asset to our team.

Whenever the alarm sounds, LC is the first to respond. But his impact extends far beyond the immediate emergencies; LC's tireless dedication behind the scenes doesn't go unnoticed. His commitment to our community exemplifies selflessness and unwavering support.

In LC's own words, "I joined the Department to help the people in our community, that’s why I’m still a member of Camps Volunteer Fire Department today. To be a help to my neighbors and friends."

Firefighter Friday!

Today, we shine a spotlight on Captain Bill Seal, an active member since 2017 who assumed the role of Captain in 2023. With extensive training including 16-hour firefighter training, Emergency Vehicle Operation (EVOC), 64-hour basic firefighter, Hazmat, and numerous incident command classes, Bill embodies dedication and experience.

Firefighter Friday!

Today, we spotlight our Captain, David Seal, a member who joined our department five years ago. Since 2018, Capt. David has been actively involved and assumed the role of Captain in 2021. He possesses training in various firefighting techniques, specializing in “making fire wet, and go away”, and an expert at traffic control.

Protecting our Community
At 11:42 on Monday, the 20th of November, the Treadway Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a woods fire with structures threatened at 2287 Rackum Rd. Due to the drought conditions and high winds, Chestnut Ridge, Sneedville, Camps, and Thorn Hill Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as the Tennessee Division of Forestry, were requested to respond. Central Dispatch advised that Grainger County was sending Thorn Hill and Bean Station to the fire. As soon as Treadway arrived on scene, they saw that it was going to be a long night with the location of the fire and threatened structures. Kyles Ford/Panther Creek Volunteer Fire Department was requested to move up to Sneedville to cover in case another fire happened. Thanks to the quick response and hard work and professionalism of these volunteers, no structures were damaged or lost and the wild fire was contained. The fire response included Treadway with an Engine and Brush truck with 8 personnel, Chestnut Ridge with an Engine and Brush Truck with 4 personnel, Sneedville with an Engine and Brush Truck with 7 personnel, Thorn Hill with an Engine and Brush truck with 5 personnel, Bean Station with a Brush Truck and 2 personnel, Camps with 1 person, and DOF with 2 Dozers and ground personnel. Panther Creek/Kyles Ford had an Engine and 4 personnel on the move up to Sneedville. Hancock County Sheriffs Dept and Hancock County EMS also responded to the fire. It was a very long night and these dedicated volunteers finally left the scene after the rain started at 4:30 A.M. Central Dispatch also did an excellent job during this call. It is important to remember that the firefighters that responded to this call are all volunteers and do not get paid for protecting our community. Most had to go home and get ready to go to work. All of the volunteer fire departments that were involved in this response would like to thank everyone who supports them financially or by helping out with fundraisers. Without your support these fire departments would not exist. Firefighter Friday!

Presenting today, our esteemed Secretary and Treasurer, Jason Seal, whose tenure spans since the new firehall has been built. An active member since 2019, Jason assumed the role of clerk/secretary in 2023. His extensive training includes Emergency Vehicle Operation (EVOC), CPR and Emergency Services, opioids and overdose prevention, and Wildland Fire Courses.

Jason says, “The thing that inspired me to become an active member was when my neighbors house caught on fire and I seen that the fire department needed some young guys to help out. To add, getting to work with guys like LC Ferguson has been an inspiration because he has been with the department since the beginning and is still there sacrificing and giving his all to help his community.”

His quote echoes what Jason is and stands for! We are thankful for Jason and his hard work, dedication, and commitment. He has been and continues to be an invaluable asset to CVFD for which we are beyond grateful.

On Monday, November 20th 2023, at 23:42, Camps Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid to assist Treadway VFD, as well as: Chestnut Ridge VFD, Sneedville VFD, Thornhill VFD, Bean Station VFD, and TN Division of Forestry at 2287 Rackum Rd.

Upon arrival, it was investigated that a tree fell across a power line to cause a wildland fire. Wind Speeds up to 15mph with gust up to 30mph and the drought conditions caused the fire to rapidly spread.

With great joint command from Treadway Cheif and Forestry’s Technician, we was able to successfully contain the fire and protect 4 structures in immediate threat.

Proud of our County’s VFD’s and their response time, and efforts. We are proud everyone remained safe most of all!! Come on rain, come on!!

🔥 Hazardous Fire Weather 🔥
DO NOT CONDUCT ANY OUTDOOR OPEN BURNING THROUGH TOMORROW MORNING.
Burn permits will NOT be issued statewide today due to hazardous fire weather conditions. Sustained winds with strong gusts are expected later today and throughout the night. Fortunately, significant rain is also expected. Winds in advance of the precipitation will make firefighting operations difficult and dangerous.

Firefighter Friday!

Today, we commemorate Assistant Chief/ Chaplin Tyler Mullins of the Camps Volunteer Fire Department. Ast. Chief Mullins, an enduring presence from his early days as a junior member, has risen to the role of Assistant Chief in 2023. His journey includes the successful completion of numerous Wildfire and Incident Command Classes, alongside comprehensive Fire and Emergency Services training.

On Wednesday, November 15th 2023, at 10:44AM, Camps Volunteer Fire Department responded to a wildland fire along Tazewell Hwy.

Upon arrival, a freshly cut corn field was on fire. Through the response of our members and the assistance of an individual running a disc. We was able to successfully contain and extinguish the fire.

With wildfire season in full swing, our fire departments are working hard to contain, control, and put out fires in Hancock county.

With drought conditions impacting our county right now, we are at an increased risk for wildfires, which can cause severe damage to property, homes, communities, and natural resources.
