"REGISTRATION REQUIRED"
What does that mean?

Some library events have limited capacity for the activity offered.

How do you "register" for events you would like to participate in?

Go to:
https://www.onslowcountync.gov/Library

(We have included mobile screen shots here to help you!)

Step 1: Locate the "Events Sign Up" on the OCPL homepage. It is a lightbulb icon with a checkmark.
On a home computer, it is the farthest icon on the right.

Step 2: Once the signupgenius.com website loads (and you may have to try it/reload more than once depending on your ISP and device), locate the program you would like to select. In this screenshot example, it's today's NEW TTRPG club for grades 3-5.

Step 3: Sign up for the date and time you would like to participate in. You don't have to create an account with signupgenius if you don't want to, but you do need to register for the event. You will need to sign up for each individual session that you plan to attend.

That's it! SignUpGenius will send you an email confirmation of the registration.

Events are made available on signupgenius one month prior to the date of the event. Check in often for the events you are interested in.

Please note that for popular programs like the "adult paint party", registration is limited to ONE event, per month, per person in order to allow equitable opportunities for all interested members of the community.

Life happens, so PLEASE be sure to either cancel your attendance in the app, or call the library branch if it is on short notice, to allow staff to call patrons on the waitlist and offer the opportunity to the next person.

"Where do you get the images you use for the FOSFL page?"

They are typically one of the following:

🖼 - County approved and prepared materials,

🖼 - "Shared with credit" images that were posted publicly to social media from other sources relevant to our work (i.e. State agencies in NC and Onslow County, library appreciation pages on social media, educational resources and foundations like: PBS, The Smithsonian, The American Library Association, and The Library of Congress, to name a few.),

🖼 - iStock images from Getty Images in the public domain, or

🖼 - Photos and video that we took, personally (like the one below).

We use post backgrounds made available by meta for daily reminder posts, but we do NOT use generative AI.

There are 33 new bestsellers, thirteen new movies, four new audiobooks, 45 new children's books, and 80 other new books, including 41 that are available online.

The new bestsellers this week include "The Knave and the Moon," "Big Little Truths," and "The Disappearers." The new movies this week include "The Mandalorian and Grogu," "Disclosure Day," and "The Sheep Detectives."

County Closures for the holiday weekend.

LABOR DAY HOLIDAY CLOSURES
Most Onslow County Government Offices will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026 in observance of Labor Day.

The Onslow County Solid Waste landfill and all Convenience Site locations will be closed Sept 7. The Landfill will reopen on Tuesday, Sept 8 at 6:30AM and convenience sites will reopen on Wednesday, Sept 9 at 8AM.

Onslow County Senior Services will be closed to the public September 3-7 as staff moves to the renovated location at 4024 Richlands Highway (Onslow Enrichment Center). Regular services will resume Tuesday, September 8, at the new location. The current Senior Services location and the new location will both be closed September 3-7. Responses to phone calls/emails during this time may be delayed.

Onslow County Public Library and Onslow County Museum - North Carolina will be closed Monday, Sept 7 and will reopen Tuesday, Sept 8.

Administrative offices for Onslow County Parks and Recreation will be closed Sept 7. Parks will remain open to the public on Labor Day.

Onslow County Animal Services will be closed Monday, Sept 7 and reopen Tuesday, Sept 8. Animal Control will be responding to emergency calls only on Monday. Call 910-455-0182 for emergency animal calls such as sick/injured pets or severe animal bites.

Onslow County Health Department and Consolidated Human Services will be closed Monday and reopen Tuesday, Sept 8.

Onslow County Register of Deeds will be closed Monday, Sept 7 and reopen Tuesday, Sept 8.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office and Onslow County Emergency Services will continue to respond to emergency services calls. The Sheriff’s Office administrative office and records unit will be closed Monday and reopen Tuesday. Emergency Services administrative offices will also be closed Monday and reopen Tuesday.

The Department of Social Services will be closed on Labor Day, but if you need to make a Child or Adult Protective Services report, please call the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office at 910 455-3113 and ask to speak to the social worker on-call.
