Voices of Valor – Episode 2: Bruce Ennis

We are excited to announce that we have completed filming Episode 2 of our Voices of Valor series, documenting the men and women of Delaware’s fire service who have made a tremendous impact on their communities and the fire service as a whole.

Bruce Ennis has carried many titles throughout his lifetime of service. He began his public service career in the Civil Air Patrol before joining the Air National Guard. He later became a member of the Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna, where he has proudly served for 68 years, including terms as both President and Chief during his tenure.

Bruce also served 20 years as a Delaware State Trooper before retiring and successfully running for State Representative, where he served for 25 years. He was later elected to the State Senate, serving an additional 15 years in Dover.

During his remarkable 40-year legislative career, Bruce helped pass numerous pieces of legislation, but he is perhaps best known in the fire and EMS community for helping establish the Statewide Paramedic Act — creating what was, at the time, the only statewide paramedic program in the country.

We are honored to help preserve and share Bruce Ennis’ story as part of Delaware’s rich fire service history.

We look forward to sharing Bruce’s story in the coming weeks. If you are interested in sponsoring this documentary project and helping us preserve Delaware’s fire service history, please visit the Delaware Historical Fire Society website using the link below.
