🎣 It’s free fishing day in Texas! Which means no fishing license is needed to fish from any public shoreline today! 👮All other fishing regulations still apply today!

✅ Fishing regulations at Buescher and Bastrop State Parks are the following:
✔️Only two poles allowed in the water at a time per person.
✔️No other means besides poles are allowed to catch fish. That means no cast nets!
✔️Only five fish can be kept per person per day.
✔️Of those five fish, only one can be a bass and it must be above 14 inches in length.
✔️Insects, amphibians, etc. cannot be caught in the park to use as bait.

🐟If you didn’t know, you can also fish with out a fishing license in Texas State Parks or State Natural Areas year round! As long as you have paid your day pass entry to the park, that counts as your fishing license! You can be fined for fishing without out a day entry permit.

🌲Kids 12 and under are free at all Texas State Parks! Adults are $5 per person for entrance fees. Programs are completely free to attend after park entrance fees are paid.

Have you heard about the awesome, free event happening at Lockhart State Park on May 30th for girls ages 10 - 18?!

Our Interpretive Ranger will be there to teach Air Rifle! Participants will have the opportunity to learn and experience fishing, archery and air rifle. Registration is required, follow the instructions below to sign up!

🚨Park Alert 🚨

The MS150 bike race will be occurring this weekend, Saturday, April 25th.

The MS150 bike race path does come along Loop 150 and through Bastrop State Park to Park Road 1C and then through Buescher State Park.

🚴‍♀️ Bike riders should be expected around 6:30am in the park and finish mid afternoon in Bastrop State Park.

‼️ Park closures for race at Bastrop State Park: Creekside and Copperas Camp Loops will be closed.

‼️ Park closures for race at Buescher State Park: Cozy Circle, Lakeview and Oak Haven Camp Loops will be closed.

Park Day Users please be aware of cyclists on the road ways, use caution and drive friendly.

🚴 Traffic Advisory: Bike MS – ACC Texas MS 150

The Bike MS: ACC Texas MS 150 will pass through Bastrop on Saturday, April 25, 2026, with cyclists expected in the area from 7 AM to 12 PM.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signage, and be mindful of police presence and traffic control along the route.

New this year: A 38-mile route will begin at Mayfest Park in Bastrop and travel to La Grange, TX.

📣Update on the fall 2025 - spring 2026 prescribed burn season below!

📣Park Update:

No prescribed fires will be held during the remainder of the fall 2025- spring 2026 season at Bastrop State Park; the right conditions did not occur.

🌲 Fire is a critical and historical part of the Lost Pines habitat, and is necessary to manage the habitat for plants, wildlife, public safety and enjoyment, and to reduce the risk of wildfires. Trained professionals carefully plan and implement prescribed burns. When they can’t safely accomplish their goals, they cancel the burns.

🪚🪓⛏️ State park staff will continue to manage your public lands with tools such as mechanical, hand and chemical vegetation management. They will be ready next season (fall 2026- spring 2027) to use prescribed fire at Bastrop State Park, if conditions are safe.

✅ If you would like to receive text message notifications prior to prescribed burns in the Lost Pines Complex State Parks, text 888777 with this message: BastropRX (not case sensitive). This opt-in, day-of notification is different than Warn Central Texas; you will only receive these texts if you sign up.

🔥Before conducting our next prescribed fire at Bastrop State Park, we will invite the public to watch the burn.
