For decades, Smithville firefighters have collected donations on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of the annual “Fill the Boot” fundraising campaign. Historically this was done at the intersection of highways 92 and 169. Safety concerns for our personnel standing and walking near this busy intersection led us to explore other safer options. Thankfully, the Smithville School District has graciously approved Smithville Area Firefighters Local 4945 members to collect donations for the MDA at tonight’s football game. If you cannot make it to tonight’s game against the Kearney Bulldogs and would like to donate, they have provided a QR code. 100% of the donations collected go directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

On this 25th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember the thousands of victims lost that day.
We also remember the 343 members of the Fire Department of New York, 1 member of the New York Fire Patrol, 23 officers of the New York City Police Department, 37 Port Authority officers, and 8 EMS personnel. All of them making the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community. Always honored, never forgotten.

Join us for a fun-filled Touch-A-Truck event hosted by the City of Smithville! This FREE community event, Saturday,
September 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Heritage Park. The event is open to children and families of all ages.

Come get up close, explore, and even climb aboard big trucks, heavy equipment, and service vehicles from across our community!

We are incredibly proud of the 5 SAFD personnel who completed the Kansas City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb honoring those lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001, including 343 Firefighters and Officers of the Fire Department of New York.
Completing the 110 story climb this year were Firefighter Dustin Blanchard, Firefighter Jake Gatlin, Firefighter Tyler Gebauer, Captain Shane Moore, and Captain Blaine Watkins. Way to represent SAFD! The other Firefighter in the photo is a member of the Kansas City, Mo Fire Department who finished the climb with our personnel.
