🚨 BREAKING: SLITHERY SUSPECT ESCAPES!

A suspicious character was spotted lurking around the pound this morning. 🐍

I approached the suspect to conduct an investigation, but before I could question him… HE FLED THE SCENE. 😂

The suspect was last seen slithering away at a high rate of speed and successfully evaded capture.

After further review, the suspect has been identified as a harmless ring-necked snake, so no pursuit will be initiated. He is considered cute, non-dangerous, and free to go about his snakey business.
Case status: SUSPECT GOT AWAY. 🐍💨

Ozzy’s time to shine ☀️ We just completed our mile and he did great. Ozzy has been at the ranch since November of 2023 with a few returns after failed adoption attempts due to reactivity towards livestock. We know for sure he’s not good with horses and chickens. This sweet guy is cuddly, appreciates belly rubs and loves to play with toys. He’s kennel and house trained, and knows basic obedience. Ozzy does fine with cats and kids, but is dog selective. One of his best friends is a female German Shepherd, and he did really well with the last potential adopter’s male pitbull mix.

The City of Smithville is hiring a full-time Animal Control Officer to join the Smithville Police Department.

This is a new position that will help shape and build our full-time animal control program. The Animal Control Officer will respond to animal-related calls, enforce City ordinances, investigate complaints, care for animals housed at the City pound, assist with adoptions and owner redemptions, and work closely with police officers, veterinarians, City staff, and the community.

Salary: $48,999.99 to $68,609.81 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

Benefits include City-paid employee medical insurance, dental and vision options, paid parental leave, 11 paid holidays, 2 personal days, vacation and sick leave beginning upon employment, and LA**RS L6 retirement.

Experience in animal control, animal shelters, veterinary care, wildlife control, law enforcement, code enforcement, or related work is preferred.

Its going to be a hot week again! Please walk your dogs early morning or in the evenings, limit their time outdoors and watch the hot pavement on their paws! Bring your pets INSIDE and have plenty of clean water for them!

🥵 This could be one of the hottest beginnings of September on record for Kansas City! maybe a cooldown around Labor Day? I was hoping for an early fall, but September can still be plenty hot in the Midwest. What about y’all?
