A huge thank you to everyone who has donated blankets and towels to us! ❀️🐾

We are incredibly grateful for your generosity and support. Thanks to all of your donations, we are actually in great shape on blankets and towels for the time being.

At the moment, our biggest challenge is storage. We have run out of containers with lids to keep everything organized and clean. Unfortunately, mice can get into bags, and because we have doggy doors, controlling mice is difficult. We can't safely use mouse poison around the building out of concern that a dog could potentially come into contact with a poisoned mouse.
If anyone has large plastic storage totes with lids they no longer need, we would greatly appreciate them! Until we can get several more storage containers, we will need to pause accepting additional blanket and towel donations.

Thank you again for always supporting the dogs in our care. We couldn't do what we do without this amazing community! 🐾❀️

Another reminder! PLEASE update your pets microchips, make sure they have current tags on collars and don't give a bath the day of fireworks. That's always the excuse we hear why they don't have their collar on with tags, because they gave them a bath. Tags help get your dog home immediately. Microchips take time and if the dog is impounded, we will check for a chip, but the owner will pay an impound fee. If they have tags, the finder can check the tags and get them home without getting us or the police involved. So, please make sure you and your pet are prepared for the 4th of July this year. Keep them safe and secure at home, they don't want to go watch fireworks with you.

Friday afternoon update:
Change of plans! Sawyer has a family fostering to adopt him as of this afternoon, so he will not be in the parade after all! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

πŸΎπŸŽ‰ Guess who will be in the Smithville Lake Fest Parade tomorrow?! πŸŽ‰πŸΎ

That's right... THIS cool dude! 😎

Sawyer will be cruising through the parade, showing off his good looks, charming personality, and hoping to catch the eye of his future family. ❀️
If you see him, be sure to wave and cheer him on! And if you've been thinking about adding a sweet, fun-loving best friend to your family, keep an eye out for Sawyer... he's still looking for his forever home.

🏑 Adopt Sawyer. Loves playing ball. Does well with other dogs. ❀️ Expert-level snuggler and attention seeker.

See you at Lake Fest, Sawyer! 🎊🐾

I took Sawyer on a walk with two of my chihuahuas, Eevee and Luigi, and asked them the important question:

"Should Sawyer become your new brother?"

Eevee's answer? She walked right over and gave Sawyer a sweet little kiss on the nose. ❀️

Luigi's answer? He immediately headed the other direction as if to say, "Absolutely not. I did not agree to this meeting." πŸ˜‚

The good news is that Sawyer did great with both dogs! He enjoys being around other dogs and would love a canine sibling of his own.
Unfortunately, he can't move in with us, so we're hoping someone else will let him become part of their family.

Who has a dog looking for a new brother? Or better yet... who has room in their home and heart for Sawyer?

Come meet this sweet boy and see if he's the missing piece of your family.

🐾 ADOPT SAWYER! 🐾

Sawyer is a 4-year-old Carolina Dog mix with a big heart and an even bigger love for tennis balls, belly rubs, and spending time with his people.

He's a sweet, affectionate boy who can be a little shy when meeting someone new, but give him a few minutes and he'll be leaning in for pets and asking for attention. He enjoys walks, playing fetch, and lounging close to his favorite humans. He's done well around other dogs, is curious but respectful around cats, and would do best with older children.

Now for Sawyer's one "but..." πŸ˜†

As you'll see in this video, Sawyer can be great off-leash... until he spots something worth chasing. In this case, moments after this video was taken, it was a group of killdeer birds nesting nearby. The moment something runs, flutters, flies, or darts across his path, his ears stop working and his chase instinct takes over! We honestly don't know what he'd do if he ever caught up to one, but we do know he absolutely loves the chase.

Because of this, Sawyer will need a securely fenced yard or to be kept on leash during walks and outdoor adventures.

If you're looking for a loyal companion with a goofy personality, a love of fetch, and enough enthusiasm to keep life interesting, Sawyer may be your perfect match! ❀️

To meet Sawyer, call 816-532-0070 to schedule a visit.
