Reminder***Back Pack Program families*** TOMORROW IS THE DAY!

Tracy Lawrence’s Mission:Possible Turkey Dinners

Tracy and Becca Lawrence have been serving students and families in Tennessee through their Tracy Lawrence’s Mission:Possible Turkey Dinners for close to 20 years. This year, they have expanded their sites to the DeKalb County School District Back Pack Program.

Through this program, each family is provided a fully cooked turkey and canned or boxed sides, to take home and enjoy for Thanksgiving.

MEAL PICKUP: Meal pick up will be on Wednesday, November 26th, 2025, from 10:45am-11:45am(or until we run out), at DeKalb County High School (the pick up line will start at the ramp in front of the DCHS cafeteria, your meal will be brought out to your vehicle).

***Please Read***
-Meals are limited, only 70 turkey meals will be distributed.

-Meals will be given out first come, first serve.

-You will be required to sign a release liability form when your meal is brought out to you. This waiver indicates that you have read the USDA Safe Food Handling Guidelines and will follow the guidelines once the food is in your possession. You may go ahead and review the guidelines below.

USDA GUIDELINES:
The Two-Hour Rule: To make sure food stays safe to eat, all perishable items should be refrigerated within two hours of when they finished cooking. After two hours, perishable food will be in the Danger Zone (40 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) too long, which is when bacteria can multiply quickly and cause the food to become unsafe. If foods have been left out for more than two hours they should be discarded.
Store and Reheat Leftovers: Store leftovers in the refrigerator for no more than three days or in the freezer for no more than 3 months for later use. Reheat leftovers to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
You Have Questions, USDA Has Answers: For advice about how to safely prepare the turkey and all other menu items this Thanksgiving Day, call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) or chat live with a food safety expert at ask.usda.gov from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. If you need last-minute help on Thanksgiving Day, the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Visit FoodSafety.gov or follow USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Twitter or on Facebook at Facebook.com/FoodSafety.gov for the latest food safety tips.

The AskUSDA site makes it easy to find information from across our organization all in one place, or connects you with someone who can. To get started, just type keywords or phrases into the search box above.

Today, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced the launch of FeedTN.org a new platform connecting Tennesseans with resources and opportunities to serve their communities.

If you’re a SNAP recipient in Tennessee and looking for ways to fill the gap the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) — administered by our Commodities Staff here at TDA — provides nutritious food to eligible individuals and families. If you’re SNAP eligible, you are automatically eligible for TEFAP distributions.

Distribution is done DIRECTLY from your local food bank:
Use our interactive map to locate the food bank serving your county here. Simply select your county of residence from the dropdown menu and call the corresponding food bank or affiliate agency. There are HUNDREDS of affiliates on the map, so make sure to select your county to see them.
