Signage can be your best friend. Not only do signs and banners let potential customers know that you are in business, hosting an event, or hiring, but they can also create a lasting impression. However, just because signs and banners are beneficial does not mean that you can place them wherever you want.

The City of Smithville has a sign ordinance in place that requires permits for both temporary and permanent signs. Signage and/or banners on buildings also require a permit. Garage sale signs do not require a permit.

No signs of any kind are allowed in the right-of-way of any city street or state highway.

If you have questions, call the City’s Development Department at 816-532-3897. You can also visit the City’s website for the rules and regulations or to access the proper application.
