Twenty-five years later, Smithtown came together to remember, to honor, and to keep a promise that time will never erase: We will never forget.

At Long Beach, families, neighbors, first responders and veterans gathered to honor the 53 Smithtown residents we lost on September 11th, 2001 — and every life forever changed by that day.

From the reading of their names and the placing of memorial wreaths, to a Black Hawk flyover, powerful reflections from retired NYPD Captain Jimmy Albrecht, and the release of memorial lanterns beneath a setting sun, every moment was a tribute to courage, sacrifice, faith and unity.

Twenty-five years have passed, but their names have not been forgotten. Their stories will not end with us.

In Smithtown, remembrance is more than a promise. It is a legacy.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Yesterday evening, the community came to Town Hall for our Pediatric Cancer Awareness Tree Lighting.

The evening is an opportunity to recognize Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, honor the children and families affected by pediatric cancer, and bring our community together in support of this important cause.

Thank you to The Thomas Scully Foundation, the Daniela Conte Foundation, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, the Smithtown Children's Foundation , and the Smithtown Central School District for helping make the evening possible, and to everyone who joined us and showed their support.

Reminder: This Thursday evening, September 10th, the Town of Smithtown will gather at 6:30 PM at Long Beach Pavilion for our annual September 11th remembrance ceremony.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, and the ceremony will take place on the evening prior to September 11th. We will honor the 53 Smithtown residents who lost their lives, along with all those whose lives were forever changed by that day.

Please watch the reel for more information about the ceremony, including the interfaith prayer, reading of the names, ceremonial wreath laying and memorial lantern tribute.

All are welcome. Join us at sunset as we remember, honor and ensure that Smithtown Never Forgets.
