Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services Welcome to the Official page of Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services. Aetna, Cavetown, Pen Mar, Cascade, Fort Ritchie, and Ringgold.

Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services, also known as SEMS, is a volunteer, not for profit organization which provides Emergency Medical Services, at both basic life support (EMTs) and advanced life support (paramedics) levels. SEMS' primary response area covers approximately 70 square miles in the communities of Smithsburg, Leitersburg, Mt. SEMS also provides mutual aid EMS response to Frederick C

ounty, Maryland and Franklin County, Pennsylvania. We respond to approximately 1,200 calls each year using a fleet of 3 advanced life support equipped ambulances, 2 advanced life support equipped chase vehicles and 1 basic life support equipped chase vehicle. SEMS was formed in 1981. Our current station was built through general public and private donations in 1990.

WashCoMD Alert: Tornado Watch

The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch 45, which is in effect until 8:00 p.m. (EDT) and includes Washington County, MD. A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes.

The Washington County Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor weather conditions and encourages citizens to stay alert and monitor local weather updates.

Big news from Station 79! We are pleased to announce the arrival of our Brand - new Ambulance 79-1 and extend our sincere gratitude to Smithsburg Community Vol. Fire Co. 7 for their support in welcoming our new unit. Further details will be shared regarding an upcoming ceremony where you will have the opportunity to join us as we place the unit in service. While there is still much work to be accomplished, we look forward to sharing this notable milestone with our dedicated community.
