The Smithsburg Library wants to honor a very special friend of the library who passed on March 15th. Elizabeth was one of our favorite patrons who, despite being in her 90s, possessed a zest for life, a passion for gardening, and an immense talent in quilting. On her weekly visits to the library, Elizabeth would give booming reviews of her recent reads, she’d refresh our dum-dum lollipop supply, and periodically would gift us another unique quilt square for storytime. If your child has ever attended a Smithsburg storytime, most likely they sat upon Elizabeth’s handiwork. She would ask Miss Laura for input on what the kids enjoyed, then would masterfully bring that topic to life in her vibrant and interesting quilts. The squares are so beloved by storytime attendees that, if another child claims a favored square, tears have been shed! To say that Elizabeth will be dearly missed is an understatement. We are honored to memorialize her life and talent by continuing to share her lovely creations with our littlest readers each week. 🪡🌷💖
