The Smithfield Truck Company goes out of district for Fire on 460

At approximately 1745 hours on Thursday, 3 September, your Smithfield volunteers were requested to provide a fully staffed truck company to aid in fire suppression efforts for a confirmed working single-family dwelling structure fire in the 5300 block of Windsor Boulevard. Fire companies from Windsor, Carsville, Zuni, Ivor and Isle Of Wight Fire Rescue were already en route when the first units arrived on scene, reporting heavy smoke and fire showing from the back of the home. SVFD truck 50 staffed with a crew of five was requested to respond to support an aggressive fire attack by the initial companies. Truck 50 arrived on scene just behind ladder 20 and immediately went to work interior of the structure on the second floor, opening ceilings and knee walls to help locate and extinguish hidden fire. At one point during the incident Truck 50 along with Windsor Fire Companies were ordered to the roof to ventilate the structure and help with locating fire burning in overhead void spaces. Your SVFD volunteers operated for approximately 3 1/2 hours assisting with fire attack, ventilation, and overhaul before being released by command to return to the Smithfield first due district. This was a challenging incident requiring maximum effort from all responding departments and supporting agencies. SVFD is proud to work alongside some of the most professional volunteers and paid staff in the region, well done to all companies facing challenging conditions!

Busy Saturday for Station 50

Your Smithfield Volunteers handled nine calls for service yesterday (11 July) which included multiple fire alarm responses, a motor vehicle accident, multiple medical responses and an extended large animal rescue for which a City of Suffolk Rescue Company was requested for mutual aid. The SVFD would like to thank SFR Rescue 1 for their quick and professional response!

The Members of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department would like to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Independence Day! We hope all get a chance to spend time with friends and family as we mark the 250th celebration of the birth of our nation!

We would also like to congratulate Logan Edwards on his first day of work as a City of Hampton recruit. Logan is one of our live in member and is currently assigned to HRFA class 82. Proud to see one of our own moving forward.
