Strong schools are built through strong partnerships—and we’re inviting families, educators, and community members to help strengthen the connection between our schools, homes, and community.

IWCS is launching a Family & Community Engagement Task Force as part of our Strategic Plan. Members will help us:

🤝 Strengthen school-family-community partnerships
💙 Support student well-being
🗣️ Bring family and community voices into future initiatives
🌟 Help every student discover, develop, and maximize their unique gifts and talents

Meetings will be held in person, quarterly:

🎉 One Week Down… and an Incredible Year Ahead! 🎉

What a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year! 💙

Over the past week, our schools have been filled with smiling faces, new friendships, familiar reunions, exciting learning experiences and the energy that comes with a brand-new school year.

From our youngest learners beginning a new chapter to students returning ready for new opportunities, it has been incredible to see our classrooms and hallways come alive once again. None of it would be possible without the dedication of our teachers, staff, families and community coming together to support our students.

As we celebrate a successful first week, we’re excited about everything still to come. This year is full of opportunities to Inspire. Succeed. Lead. Empower. — and we can’t wait to see where the journey takes us.

The School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, September 17, 2026, beginning at 5:00pm in the Westside Elementary School Auditorium, 800 W. Main St., Smithfield, VA 23430. After calling the meeting to order, the Board will vote to move into closed session. At 6:00 pm, the Board will reconvene in open session. Isle of Wight Achievers and special presentations occur shortly after 6:00 p.m. The meetings will be streamed live on the IWCS page and YouTube channel.

💙💛 Welcome back, IWCS! Today is the first day of the 2026–2027 school year, and we are so excited to see our students, teachers, staff, and families!

As everyone returns to school routines, please allow extra time and a little extra patience—especially with car lines and bus routes. Bus times may fluctuate during the opening days as drivers, students, and families become familiar with their schedules. Students should be at the bus stop 10 minutes before the listed pick-up time.

Before bedtime tonight:
⏰ Set the alarm and allow extra time in the morning
👕 Lay out first-day clothes
🎒 Pack the backpack and label belongings
🚌 Confirm transportation and bus stop information
🥪 Plan breakfast and lunch
📱 Check for final messages from your child’s school
😴 Aim for a good night’s sleep

Families using school transportation should have students at the bus stop 10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. Please remember that routes and arrival times can fluctuate during the opening days as everyone settles into the routine.
