CPR saves lives. Learn how you can help.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is one of the most important skills you can learn. If someone's heart stops beating or they stop breathing, CPR can keep blood flowing to vital organs until emergency help arrives.

The basics are simple:
- Call 911 immediately
- Position the person on their back
- Place the heel of your hand on the center of their chest
- Push hard and fast at least 100 compressions per minute
- Continue until help arrives or the person shows signs of life

You don't need to be a medical professional to save a life. Smith County EMS offers CPR certification classes for community members. Contact us to sign up for training and become a lifesaver in your community.

Your actions can make the difference.

When should you call 911? Here's what you need to know.

Call 911 immediately if someone is experiencing:
- Chest pain or pressure
- Difficulty breathing
- Severe allergic reactions
- Loss of consciousness
- Severe bleeding
- Choking
- Suspected stroke (facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty)
- Serious injuries from accidents

If you're unsure whether it's an emergency, call anyway. Our team would rather respond to a non-emergency than have you wait too long. Your safety is our priority. When in doubt, call 911.

Smith County EMS is here 24/7 to help.

Is your family prepared for an emergency?

Having an emergency kit at home can save precious time when seconds count. Here's what every household should have:

Essential supplies:
- First aid kit with bandages, gauze, and antiseptic
- Medications (prescription and over-the-counter)
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- Water (1 gallon per person per day for several days)
- Non-perishable food
- Emergency contact list and important documents
- Blankets or sleeping bags
- Phone chargers or portable power banks

Keep your kit in an easily accessible location and make sure all family members know where it is. Review and update it twice a year.

Being prepared means you're ready when we arrive. Let's work together to keep Smith County safe.
