🚨E-BIKE EDUCATION🚨

Due to the growing use of electric assist bicycles, some clarity is needed. Electric assist bicycles must follow the same laws as a pedal cycle.

1️⃣ First and foremost, you MUST be 16 years of age or older to operate an e-bike.

2️⃣ E-bikes must be operated as far right of the roadway as practical. (This means you cannot ride in the middle of the road). E-bikes must also travel with the flow of traffic.

3️⃣ If a vehicle is turning right, they cannot interfere with a pedal cycle or e-bike proceeding straight.

4️⃣ When riding an e-bike or pedal cycle between sunset and sunrise, the bike must have a front lamp emitting white light which is visible from 500 feet to the front. E-bikes and pedal cycles must also have a red reflector light on the rear which is visible from 500 feet. Lastly, the vehicle code requires amber reflectors on both sides of the bike.

5️⃣ E-bikes and pedal cycles are permitted on sidewalks as long as the person riding a pedalcycle upon a sidewalk or pedalcycle path used by pedestrians yields the right-of-way to any pedestrian and gives an audible signal before overtaking and passing a pedestrian.

A person shall not ride a pedalcycle upon a sidewalk in a business district unless permitted by official traffic-control devices, nor when a usable pedalcycle-only lane has been provided adjacent to the sidewalk.

6️⃣ A person operating an e-bike or pedal cycle shall not wear headphones or earbuds.

🚨Abiding by these laws will cut down on e-bike related accidents and traffic hazards!🚨

So we have heard plenty of complaints, we have witnessed the mess ourselves, we have tried idea after idea to make the geese go away.

After years of failed ideas, projects and what has seemed like no help from anyone, we have FINALLY partnered with Penn State University who is using us as a class.

That’s right a whole class of students has been working on ways to fix our Goose problem. They have researched, studied and come up with a few things that should help deter the geese from “hanging out” in our park.

The University along with our Local Penn State Extension has secured funding to assist in purchasing plants, grass, tools, and more. Now all we need is some help from the community.

So if you have a shovel, know how to do some semi hard labor, want to spend some time with other locals, or you are just bored and want to chip in to help the community.

Join us Friday September 25th starting at 8am and/or Saturday September 26 from 8am-noonish. Both days we will meet at pavilion 4 (close to the pool near the tennis courts)

So we have to say WOW!!!!

Even with the rain we still had a great turn out for our annual touch a truck!!! Thank you to everyone who braved the elements and came out to join us!!!

If everyone understood the hours of prep that goes into this from everyone who brings equipment you would probably be shocked. All the time it takes to load, unload, transport, clean, which is all paid back to everyone of us in smiles and “thank you’s”.

So this is the part where everyone gets a thank you and we will include the list below, BUT first we want to send out the most important thank you to Lorrie Rounsville!! Most of us know her as the long time librarian at the Hamlin Memorial Library. Without her this event never happens, 4 years ago we had this idea and we approached her to see about maybe using the Library, she immediately said yes, and every year she checks to make sure we are doing it again. This was the last year she will have to “check” with us as she is set to retire at the end of the month. So from all of us Thank You for everything Lorrie and the entire Library Board!

Now Thank you to everyone else who brings stuff and hangs out with us for the evening:

Lastly we would like to throw a shout out to two of our employees, Mike Tanner and Matt Dart, at the event a kid came in on a bicycle and he was having some “mechanical issues” our two employees grabbed some tools and helped the kid fix his bike. This summer has been full of events but it’s acts like these that remind us how great our community is!!

So there is an old saying “it’s takes a village to raise a child”

Today that saying became true in the purest form. At about 8am our Officers were alerted to a missing child, due to the residence not being in the Borough we notified Pennsylvania State Police and immediately we began working hand in hand to try and locate the child.

We then put a post on our social media page and in less than 2 hours we had more than 1000 shares!!! By the time the child was found that same post had gained another 300 shares!!!

State Police along with McKean County Dept of Emergency Services, and the Smethport Police took calls from all over saying they had seen the child.

By the end we had troopers and officers from multiple jurisdictions and multiple counties working together to chase leads and verify a time line of the tips that were coming in.

At the end of the day everyone including the child went home safe. So as our Borough Police Dept. we would like to say thank you to everyone who had a hand in today’s incident.

Makes us proud to be from and serve our “little” town!!!

It’s that time of year again!!!

We are once again hosting a Touch a Truck event at the Hamlin Memorial Library on Friday August 7th from 6pm-7:30pm!!!

We have made a few extra calls this year and are hopeful to have a few new pieces come and join us!!

The best part of this event is it’s totally free!!! We just want to see everyone come out say Hi, and let the kids (maybe some adults) explore and learn about the equipment, vehicles, trucks, and the men and women who operate them!!!
