Congratulations to both FF Anderson “DUMP” Ridgway on passing his BEFO/IFO class last night and to FF Vickie Searles who also completed her BEFO class with “DUMP” earlier in the year!! Keep up the training and never stop learning!! The men and women of the Slingerlands Fire Department are very proud of you both!!!

Today we remember those armed service members who gave their lives defending our great country. Memorial day is a day to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice made by fallen heroes and their families.

The men and women of the Slingerlands Fire Department extend our deepest condolences to the Boston Fire Department following the tragic Line of Duty Death of one of their firefighters. Our thoughts are with his family and the the Brothers and Sisters of his department.

We also want to keep the members of the Menands Fire Department in our thoughts after the devastating fire last night at there firehouse.

Please know that the Slingerlands FD is here to support you in anyway we can.

Welcome to the Second Edition of our Member Spotlight! This week we would like to recognize Brian Moss.

Brian has been with the Department for 7 years, and also serves as a District Commissioner. Other than helping people, Firefighter Moss’ favorite part about being a firefighter is operating the apparatus. We can always count on him to get our crews safely and promptly to an emergency.

Firefighter Moss works for National Grid, so one could say he lights up our world. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, working around his house and collecting coolers much to his wife’s dismay.

Welcome to the First Edition of our Member Spotlight, starting with Craig Sleurs, Chief of The Slingerlands Fire Department. He has served as Chief since 2019 and has dedicated 41 years of his life to the fire service. Chief Sleurs retired from the Bethlehem Police Department as a traffic investigator and owns his own landscaping business!

Chief Sleurs joined the Slingerlands Fire Department because he always wanted to be a fireman and a police officer. He’s passionate about helping the residents of Bethlehem and loves being part of the “big family” that is the fire service.

Chief Sleurs likes riding his Harley, fishing, and sitting around the campfire with family and friends. His dislikes include dirty firetrucks and when people don’t check the batteries in their smoke detectors
