Randy Fandal - Mayor of Slidell

Randy Fandal - Mayor of Slidell A strong, experienced and proven leader who will never stop fighting for Slidell. Randy Fandal has spent his life protecting and serving the people of Slidell.

Randy Fandal for Mayor of Slidell

A lifelong public servant, fourth-generation Slidell native, and proven leader, Randy Fandal is running for Mayor of Slidell with a clear mission: to continue building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous community. With a 45-year career in law enforcement and over 30 years of leadership and management experience, Randy has dedicated his life to protecting the

people of Slidell and Louisiana. He currently serves as the Chief of Police in Slidell, a role he has held since 2016, leading the department through some of its most transformative and successful years. As mayor, he will bring the same dedication, strength, and transparency to City Hall that he brought to the police department. He’s not a politician—he’s a public servant with a proven record of results. A Lifetime of Service

Randy began his law enforcement journey in 1980 with the Slidell Police Department, serving as a Patrolman, Detective, and EMT. In 1990, he graduated from the Louisiana State Police Academy at the top of his class, receiving the Douglas M. Millet Award for Academic and Leadership Excellence. During his 23-year career with the Louisiana State Police, Randy served as a Trooper, Sergeant, and Lieutenant, including roles at Troop L and at State Police Headquarters. He was known nationally for leading the Criminal Interdiction Program, which received acclaim for one of the largest crystal m**h seizures in U.S. history—over 500 pounds. After retiring from LSP in 2011, Randy hiked the 2,184-mile Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, raising funds for the Troop L Grant-A-Wish program for terminally ill children. He returned to law enforcement in 2013 as a part-time narcotics investigator before being elected Chief of Police in 2016. Family First

Randy is a proud graduate of Slidell High School (Class of 1978) and the LSU Law Enforcement Institute. He has been married to his wife Dania, a Licensed Social Worker, for 29 years. They have three adult children: Matthew, a State Police Sergeant; Mark, an ICU nurse; and Mallory, a small business owner who operates autism therapy clinics in Slidell and New Orleans. Randy is also a proud grandfather of two—with a third grandchild on the way. Committed to Community

Randy is active in numerous civic and professional organizations, including:
• Rotary Club of Slidell Northshore
• Louisiana & International Chiefs of Police Associations
• Slidell Police Association
• Louisiana State Troopers Association
• Slidell Men of Steel
• King Samaritan LXVIII – Slidell Women’s Civics Club
• Krewe of Bilge

Proven Leadership. Real Results. Under Chief Fandal’s leadership, the Slidell Police Department has achieved remarkable milestones:
• Secured $19 million in funding for a state-of-the-art police headquarters.
• Increased officer pay and staffing, while helping reduce property taxes for city residents—a plan approved by 79% of voters in April 2024.
• Initiated the most comprehensive pay upgrade in SPD history, making it one of the highest-paid departments in the region.
• Led the department to a 10-year low in violent crime in 2024, with overall crime down since taking office.
• Successfully obtained a COPS grant to hire five additional patrol officers and a $90,000 DOJ grant for body cameras, further modernizing and strengthening public safety.
• Brought national attention to SPD through its appearance on Live PD, highlighting the department’s professionalism, transparency, and strong community ties.

I’m honored to officially re-qualify to serve as your Mayor of Slidell. It has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve this community first as your Chief of Police and now as your Mayor. In just the first 90 days of this administration, we have accomplished a great deal, and we are only getting started. I’m proud of the momentum we’ve built together, and I look forward to continuing that progress over the next four years.

Thank you for your trust, your support, and the opportunity to serve this great city.

Today marks an exciting step forward for Slidell and the future of youth recreational sports in our city. As we move ahead with our recreational park revitalization plan, I want to sincerely thank Councilman Kenny Tamborella, the Slidell City Council, SYFA and Slidell Bantam Baseball Association.

In the near future, we’ll finalize details with a private investment team that will be putting $7–$8 million into renovations at the SBBA park, keeping it home to recreational baseball and softball while transforming it into a tournament destination, all without burdening our taxpayers.
Thank you to our residents for your patience and continued support. This project strengthens our quality of life, supports local businesses, and delivers lasting economic impact for Slidell.

⚾️ Big news for Slidell! ⚾️

At last week’s State of the City address during the East St. Tammany Business Alliance Luncheon, Slidell Mayor Randy Fandal spoke about the city purchasing the Slidell Bantam Baseball Association (SBBA) ballfields. Today, that vision became a reality, as the City of Slidell officially closed on the purchase of the SBBA fields.

After two years of hard work, planning, and collaboration, we are excited to share that the City of Slidell now owns the SBBA ballfields and that a private investor has committed 7 to 8 million dollars to turf and upgrade the facilities.

“This project will improve recreational facilities for our families and allow Slidell to host tournaments from across the region right here at home, bringing visitors and economic activity without placing the full burden on taxpayers,” said Mayor Fandal. “I would like to thank everyone who worked hard on making this deal possible, the SBBA board, and especially Councilman Kenny Tamborella and the members of the Slidell City Council for their support.”

This is a major win for our families, our young athletes, our local businesses, and our taxpayers. Stay tuned for more updates as work begins on the new and improved SBBA complex.
