Carter Memorial Bridge - EASTBOUND LANE CLOSURE

Starting the Afternoon/Evening of September 15, 2026

Lane Configuration: The bridge will be restricted to one 12-foot lane traveling Westbound (Winslow to Waterville) only.

Detour: All eastbound traffic will be subject to a detour -- Use the Ticonic Bridge.

Duration: This restriction begins during the afternoon/evening hours of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with a 24/7 detour expected to remain in place until this project phase is completed near the end of October.

Please plan your travel accordingly, allow for extra time, and remain cautious of crews and equipment while traveling through the area.

With school back in session, the Main Street detour was put to the test... and it did not go as well as it should have. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding, but we recognize that the current traffic conditions are neither acceptable nor sustainable.

Thanks to a quick response from MaineDOT and Ranger Maine , adjustments will begin tomorrow morning. Flaggers will be stationed at the south end of Perkins Street to help traffic move more efficiently. This should reduce congestion extending north toward Route 2. Plans are also underway to create a safer, more clearly marked intersection at the south end of Perkins Street.
