The world has lost a remarkable champion for justice, and I have lost my shero, my role model, and my dear friend, Bea Lumpkin.
Bea dedicated 107 remarkable years to fighting for working people, civil rights, racial justice, and education. From organizing factory workers as a teenager to standing with labor unions, tenants, teachers, and communities throughout her life, she never stopped believing that ordinary people could build a more just world.
I will miss Bea dearly, but I am profoundly grateful for the example she set and the friendship we shared. May we honor Bea by continuing the fight she devoted her life to.
Rest in power, Bea.
