Backpack was crowned Sitka’s choice for 2026 Fat Bear Week.

His story is one of family, resilience, and a long journey shaped by his mom, Holly.

Backpack’s mom, Holly, also known as Duchess of Density, won Fat Bear Week in 2019.

Backpack is now 20 years old and has come a long way thanks to his mom. He was born in 2006 and earned his nickname because he was often seen riding on his mom’s back while they crossed the Brooks River. Holly also helped him survive as a cub after he suffered a serious leg injury by carrying him on her back.
