Today is the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, otherwise known as Orange Shirt Day.

STA staff joins others all across the world in commemorating the lives and communities impacted by the legacy of Indian Residential Schools both in Sitka and across North America, while also celebrating the strength and perseverance of survivors and their descendants today.

Looking to for ways to observe the event today? Join us tonight at the Sheet'ká Kwáan Naa Kahídi at 6pm for a gathering in partnership with Outer Coast. We hope to see you there.

Subsistence Hearing & Roadless Rule Community Comment Night - WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30th from 4:30–7:30 p.m. at ANB Hall.

In 2019, 41 Sitkans testified about subsistence impacts at an in-person Roadless Rule hearing. That was nearly a quarter of all testimony from Southeast. This year, the Forest Service declined to hold an in-person ANILCA Section 810 subsistence hearing in Sitka.

So we’re bringing people together ourselves.

The Forest Service’s virtual subsistence hearing runs 5–7 p.m. This is our chance to share how repealing the Roadless Rule could affect our subsistence practices. We’ll have computers, call-in help, and support preparing your testimony. Drop in anytime from 4:30–7:30 for help participating in the subsistence hearing and submitting your written comments on the proposed Roadless Rule repeal!

Fry bread tacos by Rachel Moreno will be served while supplies last.

Can’t make it to ANB Hall? You can still call in and testify directly:
