Look at what Ketchikan Fire Department is up to!

🚨 Ketchikan, we've got a problem...

Apparently, someone decided one week of free, nationally recognized training wasn't enough... so we packed THREE outstanding courses into one week.

From Mental Health for Emergency Responders, to Youth Firesetting Prevention, to the Alaska Firefighter Cancer & Wellness Forum, there's something for nearly everyone in public safety. Best of all... it's FREE.

We know what you're thinking:
"But Chief... August is fishing season."

Good news—you can catch a salmon in the morning, attend world-class training during the day, and still spend the evening arguing about whose fishing story is the least believable.

So whether you're a firefighter, EMT, law enforcement officer, investigator, school official, behavioral health professional, or just someone who wants to learn from some of the best instructors in the country, we'd love to have you in Ketchikan.

✅ Free registration
✅ Nationally recognized instructors
✅ Practical, real-world training
✅ An excuse to visit Southeast Alaska (as if you needed one)

Scan the QR code on the flyer and reserve your spot. Bring a coworker, bring your department... just don't wait until the week before and tell us, "I meant to sign up."

We look forward to welcoming everyone to Ketchikan Public Safety Training Week – August 16–22, 2026.

Come for the training. Stay because your flight got delayed by Southeast Alaska weather. 🌧️🐟🚒

EMS Week is a time to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary people who answer the call in our communities every single day.

Across Southeast Alaska and beyond, EMS professionals, volunteers, dispatchers, firefighters, first responders, nurses, physicians, pilots, educators, and support teams work together to provide care in some of the most challenging and remote environments imaginable. From roadside emergencies and marine responses to village clinics, critical care transports, and community outreach, EMS is far more than a profession — it is a commitment to service, teamwork, and compassion.

This week, we honor the dedication, sacrifice, and resilience of those who stand ready at all hours to help others on their worst days. We also recognize the families, agencies, hospitals, and partners who support this work behind the scenes and help strengthen the continuum of care throughout Alaska.

To every provider, volunteer, student, instructor, dispatcher, and healthcare partner:
Thank you for your service. Thank you for your heart. Thank you for continuing to show up for your communities.

Happy EMS Week from all of us at SEREMS. 🚑💙

State Farm Good Neighbor Flyer-2026.pdf

Hello!
I'm on the way back from State Code Blue Steering Committee and Regional Directors meetings with good news: we did it! After hearing from rural EMS advocates statewide, both the State House and Senate added Code Blue funding into their version of the capital budget! Thank you for your advocacy and support!

What this means for you
- Very few applications were received statewide, presumably because Code Blue was still unfunded when applications were due. Because of this, the CBSC requested an extension of the application deadline extension to June 30. We have not yet received a response but are hopeful. If you didn't put your request in because of the lack of funding, please apply now! Its not certain but the odds are good!
- If you did apply: all existing applications are in progress and all eligible items are on the list for tentative funding. Again, no promises, but this is promising!
- More advocacy will likely be needed to ensure Code Blue remains in the finalized budget signed by the governor- look for more info shortly on our next steps!

-Small community grants due tomorrow morning: Here is another excellent and under-utilized grant. By applying, you can boost funding for your own and neighboring communities. Sorry for the short notice- Get it in tomorrow by 0800 Alaska time!

Hi all,

In cooperation with the NVFC, we’d appreciate your help promoting the 2026 State Farm® Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program, which will provide 150 VFDs across the U.S. with $10,000 to purchase critical equipment. States with 10 or more applicants are guaranteed at least one grant recipient. Last year, Alaska only had 7 eligible applications. It’d be great if we could get more participation.

If you could please share this information with your regions, that would be helpful.
