This past weekend SRFD members conducted controlled burns on approximately 20 acres of land in total over the course of 4 separate controlled burns. Controlled burns are a vital part of improving land and native grass habitats.

If you are in the Split Rock Township and have land or branch piles you want safely burned and monitored, please reach out to us. We'd be happy to meet with you and create a plan to help!

Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters - April 26 - May 3, 2026. Honoring the fallen and their families. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation calls for all to light up their homes or fire stations in red, to honor the fallen firefighters and their families.

We have have lit our trucks, in addition to adding blue to show support for the Sioux Falls PD officer that was shot in the line of duty this week. We pray for their full, speedy recovery.

In addition to lighting your homes or stations red, please remember to lower your flags to half staff from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, May 3, 2026 as part of the NFFF Memorial Weekend.

Construction Season 🚧 🦺 is back!

Starting Monday, here's what eastside drivers need to know about Veterans and Arrowhead parkways:

⛔ Arrowhead Parkway closed east of Veterans Parkway to Hein Avenue for the next six weeks.

↔️ East/west detours at Madison, 26th and 41st streets.

↕️ North/south detours at Sycamore Avenue and Six Mile Road. Veterans Parkway is still open with lane closures.

Rowena, South Dakota – Split Rock Fire Department responds to injury accident, west of 483rd Ave and SD Highway 42 on April 9th, 2026.


On April 9th, 2026, Split Rock Fire Department responded to an injury accident, west of 483rd Ave and SD Highway 42. Responding agencies found a two-vehicle accident involving a Ford Fusion and a Chevy Silverado collided head on near the east end of Rowena, blocking both westbound and eastbound lanes of travel. Witnesses of the accident stopped to provide care to both drivers of the incident. Firefighters were able to extricate the driver of the Ford Fusion who was transported to the hospital by air medical transport. The driver of the Chevy Silverado was treated and transported via ambulance to the hospital.

We are grateful for the quick action taken by the witnesses of this accident who assisted without hesitation. This incident is still under investigation which is being conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

Split Rock Fire Department responded to the incident with 5 Apparatus and 16 personnel. We were assisted on scene by MedStar Ambulance, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, Minnehaha County Emergency Management, Avera Careflight, Minnehaha Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and Eastgate Towing

We are currently in the process of a new rescue truck 🚒 build with Heiman Fire Equipment. Expected arrival Q1 2027 🗓️!

Now imagine this, our pancake feed is coming up May 3, and we got to thinking, how much does a single pancake cost? About $0.10.💰

We would need to make over 2,600,000 🥞 pancakes to cover the cost of the new truck, WOW 🤯! We typically make a little over 2,000 pancakes at each feed we do.
