As one of the largest fire departments in the upper Midwest, we are committed to the safety of Sioux Falls. We do more than fight fires, as emergency medical calls now make up more than half our emergency responses. We also have one of the larger Public Access Defibrillator programs in the country, and regularly provided CPR classes.

Week 1 complete!

Our cadets kicked off academy with onboarding, new connections, and an introduction to the fire service, communication, personal protective equipment (PPE), and teamwork. They also earned their CPR certifications!
We’re excited to follow and share their journey!

We will be celebrating National Root Beer Float Day with an Open House at Fire Station 1, 100 S Minnesota Ave. Come join us tonight, August 6th from 6:30-8:00pm for truck tours, fire safety tips, and more. Everyone is welcome!

Every summer, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue deploys crews to assist with wildland fire response across the country. This week, we sent a crew to Wyoming to assist with the Left Creek Fire near Devil's Tower. They're working alongside multiple agencies on what is currently the fourth-largest active wildfire in Wyoming, covering approximately 282 acres. 🔥🚒

Captain Charles E. Larson – Line of Duty Death - 07/29/1967

Charles Larson served in WWII, defending our country in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star. He began his career as a public servant with the City of Sioux Falls, South Dakota as a police Officer in 1947, and transferred to the fire department in 1950. In 1954, along with several fellow firefighters, The last alarm for Charles came on July 14, 1967. Charles died because of the injuries he sustained while operating at a major warehouse fire just south of the 11th Street viaduct.
