We're continuing to watch festering light to moderate showers lift through the area this afternoon. While severe weather is not expected, quick accumulations of up to 0.30" in/hr will be possible with stronger cells. Should see most of this activity continue through late evening.

There will be a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening across southwest Minnesota, northwest Iowa, northeast Nebraska, and far southeast South Dakota. Greater risks will be further northeast into west central Minnesota, and further southeast into central and southern Iowa. Be prepared for hail up to the size of half dollars and wind gusts around 60 mph from a few storms in northwest Iowa through 10 pm this evening. If outdoors, know where safe shelter is located, and have multiple methods to receive possible warnings.

Some of the first thunderstorms of the day have begun forming over the Spirit Lake and Milford areas.

As these storms move eastward, additional development could occur further south toward Spencer and Cherokee in teh next couple hours.

Be on the lookout for brief heavy rainfall, lightning strikes, and hail this afternoon in northwest Iowa, especially if you have outdoor activies planned.

Showers will gradually decrease through the morning. Isolated storms will be possible later this afternoon into the evening, with the better chances in northwest Iowa. A better threat for severe storms exists south of a Sioux City to Storm Lake line.
