Yesterday, we shared the incredible transformation the Pipestone - Helping Farmers team made while volunteering in The Closet. Today, we’re sharing another piece of their impact.

Through their fundraising efforts, Pipestone also donated $5,799.30 to The Foster Network.

This is what meaningful community partnership can look like. Their team found creative ways to raise funds, collected donations, showed up to volunteer, and invested directly in the work we do for foster, kinship, and adoptive children and families.

There are so many ways to make a difference at The Foster Network, and Pipestone is a wonderful example of what can happen when a community partner brings those opportunities together.

What a transformation! 🩵

Last week, we were thrilled to welcome a team from Pipestone - Helping Farmers to The Foster Network. Eight volunteers joined us for a morning shift, followed by seven more in the afternoon, contributing more than 50 hours of volunteer service in a single day!

Their focus was on two rooms that play an important role in our Welcome Bag program. By changing the type of storage shelving and reorganizing the products within these spaces, the team helped us gain 50% more storage capacity and 25% more working space without adding a single square foot.

As opportunities to care for children continue to grow, making the most of the space we have and improving our efficiency is incredibly important. This team helped turn a vision for these rooms into a reality that will make a difference in our day-to-day work.

⭐️ Wish List Wednesday ⭐️

Pants are one of those everyday essentials that can be especially challenging to keep stocked in The Closet.

Elementary-age kids are active, and pants often get worn through before they can be passed along. That means we tend to receive fewer like-new pants through regular donations, while the need remains high among the foster, kinship, and adoptive children and families we serve.

Right now, we especially need NEW pants for both boys and girls in sizes 4/5T, 5, 6, 6/7, and 7.

Joggers, sweatpants, track pants, and leggings are especially helpful!

✨ August gave us so much to be grateful for.

We started the month with our School Year Kickoff on August 1, bringing together many moving parts and people who made the day possible. Community partners hosted drives, donors and sponsors helped provide what was needed, vendors brought resources and experiences for families, and volunteers gave their time to help make it all happen.

And the support didn’t stop when the event ended.

Throughout August, The Closet stayed busy with back-to-school shopping appointments, and incredible volunteer groups stepped in throughout the month to help us sort donations, restock shelves, organize inventory, and stay ready to serve each child and family who walked through our doors.

As August comes to a close, we couldn’t let it pass without acknowledging just how grateful we are for every person who played a part in this month.

Most importantly, thank you to the children and families we serve. Thank you for allowing The Foster Network to be part of your lives and for trusting us to support you along the way. It truly is an honor to do what we do.

Thank you, August. Our hearts are full. 🩵

⭐️ Wish List Wednesday: We’re Wishing for Volunteers! ⭐️

Could you give two hours each week to support the foster, kinship, and adoptive children and families we serve?

We’re looking for several more volunteers who can commit to giving two hours each week. Even if your day or time needs to shift occasionally, volunteering regularly helps you get to know The Closet and our needs, so you can jump in and make an even bigger impact each time you’re here.

Volunteer hours are available:
Monday & Wednesday: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
Tuesday & Thursday: 10:30 AM–7:30 PM

Weekly volunteer needs may include sorting donations, sizing and hanging clothing, stocking shelves, moving rolling carts throughout our facility, and helping with basic cleaning and organization.

This morning, we had the opportunity to support The Foster Network in Sioux Falls with a donation, also gaining a tour of the facility and hearing from the Executive Director, Stacy Stahl, about the meaningful work the organization does to support children and families in the foster care system. 🏠✨

The Foster Network provides:
🔵 A private, supportive space for children to choose clothing and other necessities when they first enter foster care and as they grow
🔵 Free events that connect foster children and families wither others who share similar experiences
