Gamma Xi Chapter - Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America

Gamma Xi Chapter - Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America We are the men of the Gamma Xi chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Founded in 1941 on the campus of Mo Gamma Xi has had a rich history at Morningside College.

Our Brotherhood first started in 1941. For more than two decades, our chapter met at the top of the music conservatory building, which is now known as Charles City Hall and is the oldest building on campus. This meeting place from years past is part of the attic now, following an extensive remodel of the building in the 1990's. During the renovation, a piano was left in the old chapter room. Ghost

stories circulate around campus that this piano will play itself. It is uncertain exactly what remains in this old room, as it is unreachable to the general public. In the mid-1960's, the chapter moved to the newly constructed Eppley Fine Arts Building, where it still meets today. Eppley Auditorium was recently renovated in 2013. Throughout its history, Gamma Xi has played a role in the furthering of music in the Sioux City community. It was a driving force in the creation of the Morningside College Jazz Band, and ran the Tristate Jazz festival for many years. This is now known as the Morningside Jazz Festival. Dozens of music teachers who graduated from Morningside were Sinfonians. Many of our alumni still teach in the Siouxland area. Today, Gamma Xi tries to maintain this history of service by adding to this chronicle. We do busking weeks to raise money for various charities, most recently Toys for Tots. We have sang at Holy Spirit Nursing Home. We are continuously looking at new ways to make a difference.
