David Gleiser, Executive Director of MRHD, Missouri River Historical Development, spoke to Rotarians about how the MRHD Board provides fiduciary oversight, strategic guidance, and accountability for the distribution of gaming revenues for the benefit of Woodbury County. MRHD has awarded more than $60 million in grants since its program started in 1994, with a large portion of this revenue coming from the Hard Rock Casino partnership.

Danny McCune, a senior at Siouxland Christian School, has been selected as the 2026 Rotary Club Student of the Year. He was honored during the Rotary Club meeting at the MidAmerican Energy Community Room.

McCune was chosen from all the previous Rotary Club Students of the Month during this past academic year. He will receive a monetary award, and a donation will be made in his name to a local nonprofit organization of his choosing. McCune has a 3.19 GPA, and he has been active in theater, choir, speech, debate and football. He is a two-time Iowa High School Speech Association choral reading banner winner, and he placed 12th at the national speech and debate competition in duo interpretation.

Danny is the son of Jennifer and Brandon McCune of South Sioux City.

Danny McCune, a senior at Siouxland Christian School, has been selected as an April 2026 Rotary Club Student of the Month. He was honored during the Rotary Club meeting on Monday, April 13.

Rick Bertrand, Sioux City Councilman, spoke to Rotarians and guests about his first 100 days on the Sioux City Council. His election goals were to focus on the City building codes, property taxes and the homeless population in Sioux City as citizens were ready for change. He believes the City needs to welcome building developers, repair streets and sidewalks, review and lower property taxes, and assist the homeless according to City policies.

Our Rotary Club of Sioux City this week heard from Sister Shirley Fineran, a Franciscan who spent nearly 30 years teaching social work at Briar Cliff University, served on numerous boards and founded Lila Mae's House for women who have been s*x trafficked. She will leave in June for her Franciscan order’s Motherhouse in Dubuque. It was an honor to hear from her before she left.
