So, where did Park(ing) Day come from?

Back in 2005, an art and design group in San Francisco decided to take over a single parking space. Instead of using it for a car, they turned it into a temporary public park, a small experiment that asked a pretty simple question: what else could we do with this space?

The idea caught on. Park(ing) Day is now held in hundreds of cities around the world, giving people a chance to temporarily transform spaces normally used for cars into places for art, play, conversation and community.

We're excited to bring it back to Sioux City in 2026 at 4th & Jones Streets ONE WEEK from today!

On this 25th Anniversary, we remember the people who went to work and didn’t come home, the people who boarded planes and didn’t return, and the first responders who ran in to save lives and lost theirs.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Charlie Stone and his Powell Broadcasting family. Charlie was a respected veteran broadcaster and host of Open Line. He always welcomed a great conversation about things taking place in our community and wasn’t afraid to ask some tough questions.

He reminded us that listening to each other’s concerns and various views takes respect, understanding, and conversation.

Thank you, Charlie, for loving our community and the people who call it home. You’ve been a great friend to all of us at the Siouxland Chamber and you will be dearly missed.

Today, we are heartbroken to announce that Siouxland has lost a truly special voice..

It’s hard to put into words what Charlie Stone meant to so many people. For years, Charlie wasn’t just a voice coming through the radio speakers — he was a familiar friend, a storyteller, a personality, and a part of everyday life in Siouxland.

Charlie had a way of making an impact wherever he went. Whether you knew him through his work on the air, through the countless conversations he had with listeners, or simply as a familiar face around the community, you knew Charlie cared about people. He cared about Siouxland, and he cared about the radio station and the people who made it home.

His voice became part of the soundtrack of so many lives. His stories, his humor, his personality, and the moments he shared with listeners created memories that will stay with us for years to come.

For those of us who had the privilege of working alongside Charlie, we will miss so much more than hearing him behind the microphone. We’ll miss his presence, his stories, his laughter, and simply knowing Charlie was there.

Charlie, thank you for sharing your voice, your heart, and so much of yourself with Siouxland. Your voice may be quiet now, but the impact you made will continue to be heard.

Rest peacefully, Charlie. You were deeply loved, you will be incredibly missed, and you will never be forgotten. ❤️🎙️🕊️

🚲 Congratulations to the City of North Sioux City, SD and the Dakota Dunes CID on the new trail connection where Sioux Point Road and North Shay Road meet. 🚲

Our Siouxland Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors were there to help them celebrate the occasion today. 💚

According to North Sioux City Mayor Chris Bogenrief, the completion of this part of the pedestrian/bike path means you can now travel from Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve to Dakota City and will soon be able to fully connect to Hinton on the PlyWood Trail. 🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏾🚴‍♂️

We’re excited for this new addition and the efforts to improve recreational opportunities for folks in our community and our visitors!
