Cannot believe we have these priceless pieces at the Art Center.

Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting for Pasture to Present: Grant Wood’s Corn Room and New Visions of Rural America, and it’s every bit as impressive as you’d expect.

This once-in-a-lifetime exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of Grant Wood’s Corn Room mural, originally painted in 1926 for Sioux City’s Martin Hotel. After an extensive conservation effort, the mural panels are back on display and looking better than ever.

The exhibition explores Wood’s vision of the rural Midwest and the Regionalist movement he helped define, while also pairing his work with contemporary artists who are reimagining rural life through a modern lens. Visitors will find a rare collection of Grant Wood works, including his self-portrait, Young Corn, Appraisal, and other pieces that showcase both his early career and mature artistic style.

What makes this exhibit especially unique is how it connects Sioux City’s history to conversations still happening today—agriculture, community, identity, and the changing landscape of rural America.

Whether you’re a lifelong Grant Wood fan, an art enthusiast, or simply curious about a piece of Sioux City history, this is an exhibition worth experiencing.

Independence Day is a wonderful day to celebrate our freedoms. Unfortunately, pets are more sensitive to loud noises, flashing lights and strong smells. Fireworks can cause some pets to become anxious. Please remember to only discharge fireworks during the legal times set for the City of Sioux City.

Fireworks are ONLY permitted this summer on July 3 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and July 4 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.

During the designated hours, pet owners can create a calmer atmosphere for their pet by closing windows and curtains and putting on some music or the TV to mask the firework sounds.

Thank you for celebrating safely and responsibly!

The Sioux City Municipal Band officially kicked off its summer concert season Sunday evening at the Grandview Park Bandshell, and the weather could not have been more perfect for a night of music in the park.

Families filled the hillside with lawn chairs and blankets while the band performed:
• Fandango
• Broadway Show-Stoppers Overture
• Salvation is Created
• Brighton Beach
• Symphonic Highlights from Frozen
• Rock Around the Clock
• Rockin’ Robin
• The Sound of Music
• Semper Fidelis
• The Star-Spangled Banner

This year also marked the addition of food trucks to the concert experience, with 2FIRE Smash Burgers, Antojitos Dona Carmen, and Paleteria La Mexicana serving food beginning at 5 p.m. before the 7 p.m. concert.

A big thank you to this week’s concert sponsors, Dave Pepin Real Estate and Country Vet Brand Pet Food, for helping make the evening possible.

The Sioux City Municipal Band performs Sunday nights at 7 p.m. throughout the summer at the Grandview Park Bandshell. 🌳🎺

Great news for Sioux City! 🎉

The former LAMB Theatre at 417 Market Street—originally home to Webster Elementary School—has been awarded $1.7 million in state housing tax credits to support its transformation into The Web Apartments, a name that honors the building’s school-day roots.

The project will restore the historic structure, add two new buildings, and create 54 affordable housing units. The City supported the effort through extensive public engagement and a $600,000 HOME funding commitment.

We’re grateful to Commonwealth Development Corporation of America for investing $18 million to bring this historic site back to life and strengthen the neighborhood.

A new chapter is beginning for this longtime community landmark!

June Jam has been taking over Downtown Sioux City all day today ☀️🎶

Earlier today there was a local market, karaoke contest, food vendors, a mechanical bull, inflatable axe throwing, and yes…a dunk tank. 🤣 If you missed the daytime events, definitely put this one on your calendar for next year.

BUT there’s still time to make it downtown tonight because the live music is still going strong. 👇

WEST STAGE
• 5PM — Mandy & Dylan
• 6:30PM — Byron Kuehl & The Ultra Violets
• 8PM — Artificial Stars
• 9:30PM — Above The Covers

EAST STAGE
• 5:45PM — Zero Ritual
• 7:15PM — Exit 141
• 8:45PM — Ghostcat

ACOUSTIC STAGE
• 2PM — Asha Loutsch
• 5:30PM — Ed Antone
• 6:45PM — Ghosts of Patrick Swayze

Honestly the atmosphere downtown today has been awesome. Great weather, live music, and a lot of people out enjoying Sioux City.

**And if you recognize the music, that’s because it was recorded during Mandy & Dylan’s live performance on the West Stage! 🙌
