Cannot believe we have these priceless pieces at the Art Center.
Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting for Pasture to Present: Grant Wood’s Corn Room and New Visions of Rural America, and it’s every bit as impressive as you’d expect.
This once-in-a-lifetime exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of Grant Wood’s Corn Room mural, originally painted in 1926 for Sioux City’s Martin Hotel. After an extensive conservation effort, the mural panels are back on display and looking better than ever.
The exhibition explores Wood’s vision of the rural Midwest and the Regionalist movement he helped define, while also pairing his work with contemporary artists who are reimagining rural life through a modern lens. Visitors will find a rare collection of Grant Wood works, including his self-portrait, Young Corn, Appraisal, and other pieces that showcase both his early career and mature artistic style.
What makes this exhibit especially unique is how it connects Sioux City’s history to conversations still happening today—agriculture, community, identity, and the changing landscape of rural America.
Whether you’re a lifelong Grant Wood fan, an art enthusiast, or simply curious about a piece of Sioux City history, this is an exhibition worth experiencing.
