Tonight the Woodbury Democrats’ Rural Listening and Canvassing Tour took Ben for County Attorney and Brittney Wilson for Woodbury County Supervisor to the City of Hornick, Iowa, population around 250, for their City Council meeting. Mayor Scott Mitchell, City Clerk Lori Teel and the rest of the Council made us feel welcome, and we ran into Brittney’s opponent in the Supervisor race, Kolby DeWitt.
Ben’s remarks to the Council centered on his reasons for running, including his plans to expand Woodbury County’s Mental Health Court, address homelessness and collect and use data to drive policy decisions in the County Attorney’s office.
Brittney spoke of her biography, including her experience surviving cancer and the challenges of navigating our healthcare system. (She noted during these remarks that “being poor is hard, and it doesn’t get easier.”) She also fielded questions from the Council about her views on the proposed data center in Salix, saying that should the project proceed, she hopes they err on the side of caution, adding, “It’s all in the contract.”
