Our new Director, Jared Nobbe!

The Iowa DOC is pleased to announce the appointment of Jared Nobbe as the new Director of the 3rd District. Nobbe brings over a decade of experience in community-based corrections and criminal justice.

Nobbe will be succeeding Maureen Hansen, who officially retired after a remarkable 34-year career with the department.

Great Plains Action Society has been offering a Native Women and Girls a safe space and talking circles for some time now and it’s been great for our female clients. They have now expanded to have a Native Men and Boys space. Please share with those you think could benefit from this great weekly activity.

The Woodbury County Domestic Violence Workgroup hosted a press conference in honor of and our Domestic Violence team joined in support.

Thank you to the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office, City of Sioux City Police Department, Great Plains Action Society, Safe Place Siouxland, Woodbury County Attorney’s Office, Third District Court, and Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA) for speaking for victims and survivors and helping to educate our community.

27th Annual MnATSA Conference
MN Association for the Treatment & Prevention of Sexual Abuse Conference was held April 17th to 19th, 2024. This 27th Annual MnATSA Conference addressed treatment, assessment, and supervision issues that arise in working with adolescents and adults who have sexually abused. Attending the conference from IDOC3 were: Nate Balder, Jolene Dixon, Tyler Griffin, McKenzie Martin, Brandee Ostrem, Dan Pullen and Whitney Van Wyk.

This week is . A lot of the work we do in the Iowa Department of Corrections is to protect crime victims and to prevent future victimizations. Each year, our residents in the RTF are invited to participate in a sidewalk chalk art event to provide positive messages for survivors of violence and take the time to learn about and consider the impact for victims of crime. Attached you’ll find some photos of this year’s .

In addition to sharing this art, we wanted to share with you the statistics of one of our programs geared towards protecting the community, the Iowa Domestic Abuse Program (IDAP).
📌As of March 2024, 840 individuals are being monitored in the Third District for their compliance with IDAP.
📌For every 1 female ordered to IDAP, there are 6 men ordered.
📌Through our intense efforts of getting individuals into compliance with programming to prevent future domestic violence, 82.4% of court ordered individuals in the Third District have completed required programming.

Thank you to the Public Defenders Association of Iowa for their gracious donation of $250 to the Iowa Department of Corrections - Third District Specialty Courts. We plan to utilize the donation for the purchase of client incentives and rewards for Drug Court clients.

SPIRIT LAKE — Effective April 1, the District Court for Clay and Dickinson counties launched its first Adult Drug Treatment Court. District Judge John M. Sandy spearheaded the launch of the program and will preside over the docket with the assistance of District Judge Shayne Mayer.
