The latest forecast for severe weather headed our way.

A prolonged period of showers and thunderstorms are expected in the area for the next 36 hours. Weather forecasts for tonight and tomorrow continue to predict heavy rainfall, with rainfall totals of 2.5” - 3" predicted across the state, and as much as 5 “ possible in localized areas. Flood watches have been issued for the entire state beginning today and continuing into early Tuesday afternoon. Heavy rainfall weather conditions will have a likelihood of delaying power restoration efforts and Eversource will communicate how the forecast will impact their workplan to restore customers as qu**ky and safely as possible.

Please prepare for possible power outages and severe incoming weather. I will keep you up to date as I receive information, until then be safe and check on one another.

Just a quick update regarding last night’s storms as I know some Simsbury residents are still without power:

A line of severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail moved across Connecticut on July 4th, causing destruction of trees and vegetation and resulting impacts to electric infrastructure beyond forecast expectations and damage prediction models. Prevalent lightening, dense hail and widespread hazardous winds and wind gusts in the range of 65-80 mph swept across the State, with severe impacts to the distribution system, including more than1,500 trouble spots that developed overnight.
The weather pattern of high summer heat combined with thunderstorm conditions has had a regional impact for the southern parts of the Northeast U.S.
Although the most severe weather conditions have passed through Connecticut at this point, isolated pop-up activity is possible this afternoon, with forecasts indicating potential hazardous gusts continuing at 55-65 mph, as well as increasing chances of rain into the evening hours. Deteriorating weather conditions have the potential to delay restoration efforts, depending on actual weather impacts.
High winds at these levels cause severe stress to trees and tree limbs leading to damage to electric equipment and resulting blocked roads and power outages. Our crews will looks to address the situation for critical facilities, blocked roads with no bypass alternatives and other community priorities, as well as customer outages as quickly as safety permits.

Due to the anticipated high temperatures, the Town of Simsbury will be opening the Simsbury Public Library Friends of the Library Program Room as a cooling center on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Bottled water will be available for those utilizing the cooling center.

Also due to the anticipated high temperatures, the Simsbury Farms Pool will be free to Simsbury residents who are 65 or older on Friday, July 3rd, between the hours of 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM; Saturday, July 4th, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM; and Sunday, July 5th, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The pool hours may vary if there is inclement weather. Please check the Simsbury Parks & Recreation Department website for any inclement weather closures.

Aquarion Water Company is currently working to repair a main break on Owens Brook Blvd. Crews have already been dispatched and are working on a resolution. We anticipate service to be restored in approximately 6 to 8 hours. During and after this event, customers may experience no water, low pressure and/ or discoloration. Should discoloration occur, run your cold-water faucet until the water runs clear prior to resuming use.

🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE – STORM & CARBON MONOXIDE SAFETY 🚨

With heavy snow and blizzard conditions expected, residents are reminded to take precautions to prevent carbon monoxide (CO) buildup and to prepare for possible power outages.

🏠 Storm Preparation Tips

✔️ Have a “go-bag” ready. Keep a duffle bag or suitcase packed with essentials you would want if staying in a hotel for at least two days. Don’t wait until the emergency starts packing.
✔️ Turn your thermostat up a few degrees before the storm. This can help extend warmth in your home during a power outage.
✔️ Keep devices fully charged. Phones, portable chargers, and flashlights should be ready to go.
✔️ Take shovel breaks and pace yourself. Snowstorms bring a spike in medical emergencies due to overexertion. Weather conditions can also impact response times; take it slow and stay safe.
✔️ Remember your neighbors, pets, and priorities. Check on elderly neighbors and make sure pets have warm shelter. Have a plan in place.

❄️ Carbon Monoxide Safety

Heavy snow can block:
• Furnace and heating vents
• Dryer vents
• Gas fireplace vents
• Generator exhaust
• Vehicle tailpipes

When vents are blocked, carbon monoxide; a colorless, odorless gas; can build up quickly and become deadly.

⚠️ Protect Your Household:
✔️ Clear snow away from all outside vents frequently
✔️ Never run generators inside garages or enclosed areas
✔️ Keep generators at least 20 feet from your home and away from windows
✔️ Clear snow from around vehicle tailpipes before starting
✔️ Make sure CO detectors are installed and have fresh batteries

If you experience headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or fatigue, get to fresh air immediately and call 911.

Here we go again. This storm is nothing to take lightly. Please prepare now and plan to hunker down tomorrow afternoon into Monday. PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROADS and let the plows do their jobs. With snowfall rates over 2 inches an hour, plows will have difficulty being able to keep the roads clear. Emergency Management has been in contact with state and federal partners and they are preparing for a major storm. This will be a heavier, wetter snow then the last storm so it will be harder to move.
