The Town of Simsbury is working with the Towns of Farmington, Avon, Canton, Granby, and Suffield to provide Household Hazardous Waste Collections. These collections are for items that cannot go into the regular trash, keeping hazardous materials—including pesticides, paints, cleaning chemicals, antifreeze, etc.—from being deposited into the landfill. A complete list of acceptable household items can be found here: https://www.simsbury-ct.gov/1031/Household-Hazardous-Waste-Collections
The collections will run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will be open to all residents from Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, and Suffield. Please bring proof of residency with you. Quantities are limited to reasonable household volumes; these collections are not for commercially-generated waste.
There will be three (3) collection dates for 2026:
April 25, 2026 – at Farmington High School, 10 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT
June 13, 2026 – at Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, West Simsbury, CT
October 10, 2026 – at Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, West Simsbury, CT
Please remain in your vehicle at these collection events. You will be guided on where to go and how to dispose of the items you have brought by our event attendants.
In addition to collecting Household Hazardous Waste, residents will also be able to bring up to two (2) copy paper-sized boxes of papers to be shredded to the event.
If you only need to dispose of paint, it is highly recommended that you utilize PaintCare paint recycling instead, as lines can be quite long for our Household Hazardous Waste Collections. Starting on 7/1/2013, a Connecticut Law required that the paint and coating industry develop a financially- and environmentally-sustainable solution to manage post-consumer architectural paint. Under the new program, the paint industry makes paint recycling more convenient by setting up drop-off sites throughout the state where consumers can take their paint. PaintCare will also conduct outreach and education about buying the right amount and using up remaining paint.
