From Monday, April 27, 2026, through Thursday, April 30, 2026, traffic on Iron Horse Boulevard and the multi-use trail will be impacted due to construction in the area of the Simsbury Meadows Performing Arts Center. The work is related to the Band Shell project and is isolated to the area north of the driveway. Closure of the road and trail is expected during this time.

The Paw Meadow Dog Park and Rotary Park Boundless Playground will both remain open throughout construction. Drivers will be able to access the driveway on Iron Horse Boulevard by approaching from Drake Hill Road.

We recommend that pedestrians walking the multi-use trail bypass the area by utilizing the sidewalks on Hopmeadow Street to connect the adjacent sections of the path; bicycles may not be ridden on the sidewalks. Thank you.

The Town of Simsbury is working with the Towns of Farmington, Avon, Canton, Granby, and Suffield to provide Household Hazardous Waste Collections. These collections are for items that cannot go into the regular trash, keeping hazardous materials—including pesticides, paints, cleaning chemicals, antifreeze, etc.—from being deposited into the landfill. A complete list of acceptable household items can be found here: https://www.simsbury-ct.gov/1031/Household-Hazardous-Waste-Collections

The collections will run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will be open to all residents from Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, and Suffield. Please bring proof of residency with you. Quantities are limited to reasonable household volumes; these collections are not for commercially-generated waste.

There will be three (3) collection dates for 2026:

April 25, 2026 – at Farmington High School, 10 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT
June 13, 2026 – at Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, West Simsbury, CT
October 10, 2026 – at Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, West Simsbury, CT

Please remain in your vehicle at these collection events. You will be guided on where to go and how to dispose of the items you have brought by our event attendants.

In addition to collecting Household Hazardous Waste, residents will also be able to bring up to two (2) copy paper-sized boxes of papers to be shredded to the event.

If you only need to dispose of paint, it is highly recommended that you utilize PaintCare paint recycling instead, as lines can be quite long for our Household Hazardous Waste Collections. Starting on 7/1/2013, a Connecticut Law required that the paint and coating industry develop a financially- and environmentally-sustainable solution to manage post-consumer architectural paint. Under the new program, the paint industry makes paint recycling more convenient by setting up drop-off sites throughout the state where consumers can take their paint. PaintCare will also conduct outreach and education about buying the right amount and using up remaining paint.

For drop-off locations and more information, please visit: https://www.paintcare.org/states/connecticut/

The Simsbury Land Trust and Town of Simsbury, Connecticut- Public Works Department have been working together in preparation of "The Big Night" TONIGHT, March 20, 2026. The Big Night is a special evening in March when the temperature is warmer, rainy, and the amphibians start to move from the woodlands to the wetlands to mate.

This is an amazing event you can attend to see many of New England’s salamanders and frogs. Sign up on the Simsbury Land Trust events page to join: https://simsburylandtrust.org/slt/event-0326-amphibian-big-night/

We are asking for people who drive Town Forest Road to seek another route this night because it bisects a very large wetland region. Cars that travel the road on this Big Night tend to run over these small amphibians that are an important part of our ecosystem.

A lookback to the end of 2025 where our staff participated in the 2nd Annual Holiday Door Decorating Contest as well as a Teen Gift Drive benefiting Simsbury Social Services.

In the Holiday Door Decorating Contest, the Tax Office won First Place with their ski lodge theme, Second Place went to Water Pollution Control with their "Home Alone" theme, and Third Place went to the Board of Education's Pupil Services which highlighted our Simsbury students. Thank you to all of our departments for bringing the holiday spirit into our offices and to First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis WendyMack, First Selectman, Simsbury for judging. 🎄❄️

This year we also held a Teen Gift Drive for Simsbury Social Services' Holiday Gift Program. Our staff surpassed the goal and brought in over 130 gifts to help make the holidays brighter for Simsbury teens! 🎁
