Councilman Chad O'Rear

Councilman Chad O'Rear Simpsonville native representing Ward 1 on City Council I was born in Greenville and raised in Simpsonville. We're empty nesters!

I married my high school sweetheart almost 30 years ago and we have twin daughters who have already finished college. I love to read to continue my life long passion for history. I also enjoy traveling with my family and seeing the world. I'm a massive college football fan since my Dad, my brother, and myself played! I have a strong desire to serve, guide, and assist my hometown and her residents as a member of the Simpsonville City Council.

I've advocated for the removal of the islands since I was elected. SCDOT didn't get around to doing it so I asked for this to be prioritized ahead of the beginning of the Streetscape project. I'm glad to see them go!

Big changes are coming to downtown Simpsonville.

The city broke ground this week on its downtown project, and the first step is already underway. Crews are removing the concrete islands on Main Street. It's the start of a two-year effort that will bring a new traffic pattern, streetscape improvements and a more walkable, connected downtown.

"Removing this island represents the first visible step in a project that is the result of years of planning, design and coordination," said Mayor Paul Shewmaker.

Happy 250th Carolina Day to my fellow native South Carolinians! On this day in 1776 South Carolina forces turned back the British Navy at the Battle of Sullivan's Island. The British didn't return to South Carolina for four years and have regretted that decision for a quarter of a millennium now!
