Since its inception in 1998, the Simi Valley Police Department Volunteer Program has provided invaluable service to the Department and the community through staff support, crime prevention, public relations, and education. WHAT VOLUNTEERS DO
Volunteers engage in a wide range of activities and events such as:
• Act as tour docents providing tours at the Police Department to organized groups;
• Assist staff with clerical support;
• Conduct Vacation Watch and crime suppression patrols in our Citizens on Patrol vehicles;
• Represent the Department and provide crime prevention information at community events such as: Simi Valley Music Festival; Street Fair & Safety Expo; Every 15-Minutes program; National Night Out; Prescription Drug Drop Off collection;
• Assist in Police Department and Police Explorer training exercises. WHY BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Becoming a Simi Valley Police Department Volunteer isn’t the easiest position to achieve, but if you meet our requirements you can join a select group of Simi Valley citizens who are working with the Police Department. The position of volunteer offers the following opportunities:
• An opportunity to serve as an ambassador and representative of the Police Department and the City of Simi Valley.

• Personally rewarding and enlightening experiences. QUALIFICATIONS
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• A citizen of the United States and a Simi Valley resident.
• Have a valid California driver’s license accompanied by a good driving record. Additionally, because Law Enforcement can be sensitive in nature, volunteer applicants must undergo and pass a thorough background investigation that may include a polygraph, a drug/alcohol test, medical exam, and psychological testing. REQUIREMENTS
• Contribute 8 hours a month as a Support Services Volunteer or 14 hours a month as a Citizens on Patrol Volunteer.
• Attend meetings and trainings.
• Knowledgeable in modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
• Maintain strict confidentiality.
• Wear issued uniform.
• Adhere to policies and procedures within the system of law enforcement management.
• Respond to requests and inquiries from Department staff and the general public. TRAINING
Simi Valley Police Department Volunteers are a team of trained citizens. Training includes but is not limited to:
• Orientation to the Department
• Polices & procedures
• First Aid, CPR and AED
• Patrol Procedures for Citizens on Patrol
• Crime Prevention programs
• Citizens Academy
HOW DO I APPLY? Interested persons must complete a Volunteer Applicant Interest Form (available at the Police Department or mailed upon request) and return it to Simi Valley Police Department to the Volunteer Coordinator’s attention.
