Silver Falls School District is proud to recognize our 2026 Licensed Employees of the Year — educators who were nominated by their fellow staff members and selected by district staff for the incredible impact they make every day for students, families, and colleagues.

Jon Harrington, District Behavior Specialist, was recognized for his unwavering dedication to students and staff through his leadership in PBIS, behavior support, social-emotional learning, and crisis prevention. Colleagues shared that Jon has a unique ability to connect with students, mentor fellow staff, and create environments where students feel safe, valued, and capable of success.

Megan Lierman, Math and Science Teacher at Victor Point, was celebrated for bringing learning to life through engaging classroom experiences, extracurricular opportunities, and meaningful connections with students. Staff highlighted her ability to meet students where they are while encouraging them to reach their full potential.

Kristy Zollner, Kindergarten Teacher at Butte Creek, was honored for the structure, care, expertise, and positivity she brings to her kindergarten classroom every day. Fellow staff praised her resilience, preparation, and calm leadership, noting the incredible support and reassurance she provides students while managing a large class with kindness and grace.

Scott Towery, Agriculture Science and Welding Teacher at Silverton High School, was recognized for his extraordinary commitment to students through hands-on learning, mentorship, and high expectations in the welding and FFA programs. Colleagues shared that Scott’s servant leadership, dedication beyond the school day, and focus on student success have created lasting impacts both in the classroom and beyond.

Today we celebrate School Nurse Appreciation Day in the Silver Falls School District and recognize the incredible impact of our school nurses.

Our nurses work tirelessly to support all schools across the district, often covering multiple sites and balancing the unique needs of each building. Their ability to step into different environments, build relationships, and provide consistent, high-quality care is truly remarkable. Whether supporting individual student health plans, responding to immediate needs, or helping guide building-wide practices, they are a steady and trusted presence everywhere they go.

This week we celebrated Assistant Principal Appreciation Week across the Silver Falls School District, and we are incredibly grateful for the leadership, heart, and dedication our assistant principals bring to our district each and every day. From supporting students and staff, to problem-solving behind the scenes, to helping create strong, positive school communities—our assistant principals are essential to the success of our district.

Long before the gym lights turn on or the stands fill up, two Silverton High School juniors are already deep into their day.
Marley Wertz and Levi Schurter are three-sport student athletes balancing early morning workouts, full class schedules, practices, homework, and the quiet mental battles that come with all of it.

Join us in celebrating an incredible achievement by the Silverton High School Foxes Dance Team.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Alex Reese and Assistant Coaches Emma Sword and Stella Harrison, the team had an outstanding season, winning every competition but one and finishing strong with two state titles at the Oregon State Fairgrounds Pavilion on March 21.

These victories mark the 6th and 7th state championship titles in program history, building on past wins in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2014, and 2023. This team has shown exceptional hard work, dedication, perseverance, and a true love of dance.

Mayor Freilinger joined the celebration at today’s SHS assembly to read the official proclamation, recognizing Friday, April 3, 2026, as Silverton High School 2026 Dance Team Day in the City of Silverton.
