The Silverton Fire District has been awarded a $35,000 Wildfire Season Upstaffing Grant from the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office—marking our 5th consecutive year receiving this funding.

This support allows us to boost staffing during peak fire season—helping us keep small fires small, protect our community, and maintain the bandwidth to support our neighbors and communities across Oregon on larger incidents.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office for their continued investment in wildfire preparedness and support of local fire agencies.

We’re proud to be part of a statewide effort focused on readiness, response, and keeping Oregon safe.

This week, Silverton Fire District wants to give a big shoutout to our friends at Metcom 911

When someone calls 911, you’re the calm voice on the other end—getting the info we need, keeping callers steady, and making sure we’re headed the right way, fast. You’re the ones working behind the scenes that keep everything running smoothly (even when things definitely aren’t smooth).

We know it’s not always easy, and it definitely doesn’t get enough recognition—but we see it, and we appreciate it.

Thanks for having our backs and taking care of our community every single day.

Today, YOUR Silverton Firefighters (Lt Dan Brown, FF River Savage, FF Diego Flores and FF Kyle Miller) responded to a public assist at 201 Lewis St. for a “stuck cat”. Boy, were our dispatchers at Metcom911 correct! This little guy had quite an adventure today, including a rooftop car ride from Seminole Rd, all the way into downtown Silverton, where he promptly jumped off the roof of the car, and straight into this crack between 2 buildings! Through several attempts, lots of creative cat-saving ideas, and most of their tools, your Firefighters worked tirelessly for over 2 hours, alongside Silverton PD Officer Hibbs and Detective Miranda to create a custom cat-saving rope device, utilizing PVC pipe, paracord a traffic vest and a carabiner to cradle this little guy to safety! Every life counts here in Silverton, and your public safety professionals are always ready and willing to put in the effort to save Each. And. Every. One. What a life lesson for Mr. Cat. Always ride INSIDE the vehicle, and make sure you wear your seatbelt!
