So we’re having a multi-day tree culling episode. They’re cutting most conifers that are within 15 feet of the buildings. Our buildling was mostly done yesterday. The deck is much sunnier in the morning now, making things far brighter indoors. Our regular squirrel showed up but couldn’t figure out how to get on the deck from our remaining aspen. It may take her a couple of days.

Busy day for wildlife this morning:

Thin bear on the deck for two mornings in a row. Also a racoon. As our drought continues, food must be getting scarce.

The usual birds: crows, magpies, pigmy nuthatches, juncos, chickadees

Squirrels: pine squirrel (“Stinker”), golden-mantled ground squirrel (“Cheeks”), chipmunks (“Minichip, Maxichip)”

A ton of pollen on the lift chair seat. Must be summer.

Until yesterday, I was beginning to worry that the willow living in ground just outside of our deck had died due to trying to put out leaves in late April. Finally yesterday the freeze-damaged leaves began to flourish in the 72-degree spring weather. Excellent!!
