My public speaking skills were a little rusty, but I had a supportive audience. What a great opportunity to meet new people and reconnect with old friends. It was exciting to hear fellow municipal leaders share the pride they have for their communities. The common theme for the morning was local leaders continuing to provide for their residents and improve their municipalities. Thank you to the UBCC - Upper Bucks Chamber of Commerce for inviting me.
The following are some excerpts that I shared with the group:
“I am excited to be part of the changes currently taking place and the promising future for the borough of Silverdale. What I’m about to share couldn’t be accomplished without our borough staff, borough council, Barth Consulting Group, and the residents’ participation and support.
The WB Homes’ townhome development is over halfway complete. The borough is receiving over $150k in impact fees as a result of the project. This money will be utilized for phase one of the new Cordell Park. The park is being named in honor of Mayor Steve Cordell.
Silverdale Borough, I, and other elected officials assisted and supported Silverdale Fire Company in a grant application opportunity to aid in replacing an aging piece of apparatus.
We have applied for the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Grant for phase two of the Cordell Park. We conducted a community survey to gauge what residents wanted for their park. Based on resident feedback, the vision is to include the walking trail, native trees and shrubs, park benches, a winter-time skate rink, gazebo, and bike racks. Mayor Cordell was an avid cyclist. The community has already donated $7,500 in Mayor Cordell’s honor towards the community gazebo.
The borough’s website has been completely revamped.
The borough permit applications have gone to a fillable electronic format.
The borough has an increased presence on Facebook. We also have the borough’s first Mayor’s page.
An electronic payment option is being implemented for residents’ use.
We anxiously await the start of the Baringer Avenue (Rt 152) sidewalk project.
We just completed three roadway resurfacing projects.
This year, we welcomed a new business to the borough: Simply Good Finds, located in the Factory Antiques building. We also have a local classic car club that may call Silverdale home.
In September, Silverdale will host its 6th Annual Community Day. The day includes a band, crafts, vendors, our Emergency Service providers, and food vendors. We are extremely fortunate that the walking trail from Al Reese Park connects to the growing Hilltown trail that winds through their Fairhill Road park. I want to take the opportunity to thank the Hilltown Township Supervisors and Township Manager for supporting us in utilizing the Hilltown trail as part of our wagon ride through the two parks on Community Day. We are also looking forward to Hilltown utilizing part of our park as the turnaround point for their upcoming Fun Run at the Fairhill Road park. Silverdale will be participating by hosting a hydration station at the Fun Run.”
