A rate hike is NOT a victory. 🚫⚡️

State regulators just approved a $50.9 million rate increase for Pepco, meaning that everyday families in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties are left paying higher electric bills every month.

Cutting an outrageous corporate cash grab down to a medium cash grab isn't holding big corporations accountable. It’s just negotiating the terms of ratepayer exploitation. Working Marylanders don't need victory laps over rising utility costs. We need serious, structural reform.

It’s time to: 💥 Cap monopoly profit margins 💥 Ban speculative multi-year rate plans 💥 Put people over corporate profits.

Join the fight for real utility accountability. ✊ Comment "Affordable Energy Now" to get a DM with the September 30th meeting link.

So let us get this straight...... BGE over-collected millions from customers, and now they are arguing they should not have to give it back? Meanwhile, Maryland families are watching their energy bills climb and being told to find more room in already stretched budgets. Absolutely not!!!

If utilities collect more than they should, that money belongs back in the pockets of the people who paid it. The PSC should stand with ratepayers and demand accountability. People over profit. Every time.

The Maryland Office of People’s Counsel said the state’s largest utility company should refund its customers. The company said it won’t, and can’t, because of confusing state laws.

Members of Progressive Maryland’s Healthcare Task Force met directly with Congressman Johnny Olszewski at his district office to make the case for Medicare for All. Our members shared their personal stories and urged the Congressman to co-sponsor the Medicare for All Act.

And the conversation continues this week. Congressman Johnny O is holding a Town Hall this Thursday, September 3, from 6:30–8:00 PM at the Randallstown Community Center. We need supporters to show up and make our demand for Medicare for All visible. If you have a Medicare for All shirt, healthcare button, or other gear, wear it! 🙌

Can't attend? You can still take action. Call Congressman Johnny O, send an email through our action tool, or both, and urge him to become a co-sponsor of the Medicare for All Act.

What if we told you universal healthcare could save lives AND save money? 🤔

A Yale School of Public Health study projects that a universal healthcare system could save more than $1 trillion and prevent 114,000 deaths every year. We’re fighting for Medicare for All and pushing Maryland’s representatives to do more than say they support healthcare as a right. We need them to cosponsor it, speak up for it, and help us make it real.

Help us keep building the momentum by sending an email to legislators urging them to cosponsor the federal Medicare For All Act: https://win.newmode.net/progressivemaryland/tellsenalsobrookstocosponsormedicareforall-1

Virginia spent years asking how quickly it could build data centers. But Maryland and other states have an opportunity to ask a better question: How do we embrace innovation without sacrificing the affordability, environment, and quality of life that make our communities worth living in?

As you can see, we are FED UP. Our energy bills are already too damn high, and now BGE wants Maryland families to pay even MORE while the company asks for higher profits. Meanwhile, we are still dealing with service issues, safety concerns, and questions about where all that money is going???

Tell the Maryland Public Service Commission: enough is enough. Stop the rate hike and put people before profit.
