Our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of Deputy Aleman.

The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of its own, who died in a crash while on duty Tuesday afternoon.

Patrol Deputy Antonio Aleman was on duty when his unit collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 10 near the Avenida De Mesilla exit around 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Aleman was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center where life-saving measures were performed to no avail.

Deputy Aleman has been a valuable asset to the Sheriff's Office since April 2021 and will be dearly missed. Aleman will be transported to the Office of Medical Investigators Tuesday night and then returned home. DASO personnel will accompany Aleman until he is laid to rest, which will be announced at a later day.

Deputy Aleman was 33 years old, leaving behind his wife and two children.

The Sheriff's Office extends its deepest gratitude to the following partnering agencies for the support they've provided: Doña Ana Fire Rescue, New Mexico State Police Department, Border Patrol, Las Cruces Police Department, Las Cruces Fire Department and all partnering agencies who have provided support throughout the state.

Sunday the team traveled to Pueblo Park in Catron County to help bring out a hiker who was in medical distress. We routinely practice with our litter setup, so we are prepared for situations like we encountered Sunday.
