This week, Fire Engineer Mendoza, Firefighter Rogers, and Firefighter Calkins traveled to Gilbert, Arizona to participate in “Kenny’s Heart Walk.”

One year ago, Firefighter Rogers and Fire Engineer Mendoza responded to a call where Kenny was in cardiac arrest. After 45 minutes of continuous resuscitation efforts, Kenny’s heart was restarted and today, he is alive.

Events like this remind us why we do what we do. It’s not just about the call it’s about the people and families behind it, and the lives that continue long after the sirens stop.

SCFD personnel also recognized for being part of that response are Battalion Chief Horton, Fire Engineer Schlamb, and Firefighter Williams.

Although Firefighter Calkins was not on the original call, he proudly joined to show support and represent SCFD alongside the crew.

Kenny’s story is the reason we train hard, push harder, and never quit.
