We have twenty-two (22) members on our roster, and the majority of our fire district is made up of U.S. Forest Service land of ponderosa pine forests with wildland-urban interface, large fresh water reservoir, streams, rugged terrain, that's accessible via an off-road / ATV / fire trail network. Our department has wildland, structure, and EMT certified firefighters on the roster.

May 4 was chosen as the date to celebate International Firefighter' Day as it is also the Feast Day of St Florian, the Patron Saint of Firefighters.

A Roman officer known for his courage and leadership, St Florian is remembered for his role in organising firefighting brigades and for standing firm in the face of danger.

His legacy lives on in firefighters around the world today.

On this day, we honour not only traditionโ€”but the enduring spirit of service and protection. We celebrate and thank brave firefighters around the world who risk their lives to protect our communities. Your courage, commitment, and dedication never go unnoticed. Stay safe, and know that you are deeply appreciated.

Please check any burn piles that you recently lit. Make sure they are out.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has revoked all active pile burn permits across the Black Hills effective today, ending the pile burn season early due to dry conditions, active wildfires, and elevated fire danger. If you have recently burned debris piles, check them immediately and make sure they are completely extinguished.

Avoid panicking and follow the dispatcherโ€™s instructions. Stay on
