🚀🪨🌵 Learning Beyond the Classroom! Our 1st graders from Harrison Schmitt Elementary took their learning outdoors today with a field trip to City of Rocks State Park! Students explored the incredible rock formations while learning about erosion, plants, animals, and food chains. 🌿🦎

A HUGE thank you to the Upper Gila Watershed Alliance for hosting and covering the cost of this experience for our students! Community partnerships like these make a difference, opening doors and creating learning opportunities that extend well beyond the classroom.Thank you for investing in our little Astronauts! 🚀❤

❤️🖤🤠 It was a colorful day to be a Cowboy or Cowgirl! 🌈🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️Today, Cliff Schools held their Annual Color Run! It was a great opportunity for our students and staff to get outside, have some fun, and make a few memories along the way! A big thank you to everyone who helped make today’s event possible. Sometimes it’s these moments outside the classroom that make school a little more special! Way to go, Cowboys and Cowgirls! ❤️🖤

🏈🔥💙🤍 A LITTLE CLASS COMPETITION AND A WHOLE LOT OF C**T PRIDE! What would Homecoming Week be without a little friendly competition between the classes? Last night, our Silver High students took to the field for some Powderpuff Flag Football, and they certainly didn’t disappoint! With bragging rights on the line, our freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors battled it out, with the Juniors and Sophomores advancing to the Championship Game!

Both classes came ready to compete, but when the final whistle blew, it was the JUNIORS who claimed the championship! 🏆🏈 Congratulations, Class of 2028! And what better way to finish the evening than gathering around the Homecoming Bonfire! 🔥

A little football, plenty of laughter, some good-natured rivalry, and a whole lot of school spirit! Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening possible and to all of our students who came out to participate and celebrate!

🏈💙🤍 PROUD OF OUR FIGHTING C**TS! 🐴 Our Silver High JV C**ts battled Mayfield last night at Silver High Stadium, and while we came up just short, our boys left it all on the field! They fought hard, kept competing, and never gave up. Sometimes the clock just runs out before you can finish what you started! Proud of the effort heart these young men showed. Every snap, every play, and every game is another opportunity to get better. A big thank you to our coaches, families, and fans who continue to show up and support our C**ts!

🏈💙🤍 WHAT A NIGHT AT SILVER HIGH STADIUM! 🏈🔥 Neither cloudy skies nor a little rain could slow down our Broncos yesterday afternoon! Our La Plata Middle School 7th Grade Broncos took the field against Hatch, handled their business, and protected their home turf! Great job, Broncos! Proud of the way you competed and represented La Plata! 🐴💪 And that was just the beginning!

Silver High Stadium was busy from start to finish last night! We kicked things off with our La Plata Middle School football game, followed by our Silver High C-Team C**ts taking on Mayfield!
Then came some Homecoming fun with our Powderpuff Flag Football games, featuring our freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors battling it out for bragging rights! 🏈 And what better way to wrap up a full evening than with our Homecoming Bonfire! 🔥

Football, school spirit, a little friendly competition, and a whole lot of C**t and Bronco pride!

🚀👨‍🚀 Harrison Schmitt kindergarten students had an exciting visit from the Silver City Fire Department! Our little astronauts learned important fire safety tips and had so much fun along the way! A HUGE thank you to the Silver City firefighters for taking the time to teach our youngest learners how to stay safe! We appreciate all you do for our community! 🧑‍🚒👨‍🚒

⚽️💙🤍 Yesterday was a good afternoon of soccer as our Lady C**ts welcomed Santa Teresa to Silver City! What stood out most was the effort, the teamwork, and the way our girls continued to compete for each other throughout the match. Our Silver Scholars Academy “Lil’ C**ts” had a great time today visiting the fire station! 🚒❤️ Then they headed to Penny Park for even more fun, smiles, and adventure with our Lil’ C**ts! Days like this are what Pre-K memories are made of. 💙🤍🐴

October is Principal Appreciation Month, and throughout the month we want to take a little time to recognize the people who lead our schools every single day. Today we’ee featuring Starr Cruz. A few things you may not know about Mrs. Cruz… Outside of school, she enjoys exercising, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family. But these days, nothing beats time with her new granddaughter!

Now, La Plata also isn’t just where Mrs. Cruz works. She has been a student there, a teacher there, and now serves as principal. And if you ask her, middle school students are still her favorite people. Her perfect Saturday? Put her on a beach with sunshine, salt water, and the sound of the ocean, and she’s happy.

What does she love most about being a principal? Having fun with students and staff, growing together as a school, and helping create a place where people feel supported while also being challenged to grow beyond what they may have imagined for themselves. Her students probably already know a few things about her. She wants them to be kind, work hard, make good choices, and if they’re feeling brave, challenge her to a game of rock, paper, scissors for a sucker!

And one thing she absolutely cannot survive a school day without? A crisp Apple Bloom energy drink. 😂

As we all know, being a principal means wearing a lot of hats. Starr supports students, teachers, staff, and families, solve problems nobody sees, celebrate the wins, work through the hard days, and somehow keep everything moving forward! Thank you, Starr, for making La Plata a place where kids know they can work hard, have fun, and still be themselves. There’s something pretty special about leading the same school where you once sat as a student and later taught, and I think that history shows in the way you care for the Broncos.

You know middle school kids. You enjoy them, you understand them, and you’re willing to meet them right where they are, even if that means settling something with a quick game of rock, paper, scissors.

We appreciate the joy, energy, and heart Starr brings to La Plata every day. Happy Principal Appreciation Month, Starr!
