City of Siloam Springs

City of Siloam Springs Located in Northwest Arkansas, Siloam Springs is a vibrant and growing community. The 28 springs along the creek were named in his honor, "Sager Creek".

Our earliest history dates to 1835 when Simon Sager settled on a farm one mile west of what is now the City of Siloam Springs. His original dwelling has been restored and is now located on the campus of John Brown University. The first settlement was called Hico, and in 1884 Caldeen D. Gunter settled there. At about this time the Hico Post Office was established. This was later moved to Siloam Cit

y (Siloam Springs). Hico was a prominent trading post with the Cherokee nation and consisted of two stores and a mill. In 1879 it was discovered that the waters contained medicinal qualities and the establishment of a summer resort began. The first anniversary of the town was celebrated on the 24th of June. In March 1880, J.V. Hargrove laid out the original plat of Siloam City. The name was later changed to Siloam Springs. Due to the reputation gained as a summer resort and the prospect of the railroad through town, the town was incorporated during its first year of existence on December 22, 1881, with a population of over 3,000. After this initial "boom" many of the transient residents returned to their homes and the population dwindled to about half. This was the only time in the history of the town that the population dwindled so rapidly. The first newspaper for the town of Siloam Springs was established in 1880 by Thomas Gallagher and was known as the "Sun". Other early papers were the Globe, Arkansas Herald, and the Locomotive. In 1892 the town experienced a great flood which took two lives and destroyed much of the downtown area. Rebuilding began immediately and, since that time, the town has sustained a steady growth pattern. The coming of the railroad in 1897 stepped up the economy of western Benton County. Orchards, poultry products, hides, wool, beef and all agricultural products found a ready market with the City of Siloam Springs serving as the shipping point and trade center. This trade center remains today, and is a great advantage to industry. In 1919 John E. Brown, Sr. founded the Southwestern Collegiate Institute in the City of Siloam Springs. In 1920 the name was changed to John E. Brown College, and in 1934 the name was again changed to John Brown University. Today the school has an enrollment of over 1,500 students and is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and by the Arkansas State Department of Education as a four-year college. At an altitude of 1,183 feet above sea level, the climate consists of an average temperature of 58.4 degrees and an average rainfall of 41.75 inches. Snow is usually at a premium and makes few appearances during the season, and spring brings an abundance of beautiful Dogwoods. The census count of 2010 put the population count at 15,039.

🐾 Meet Our Next Four-Legged Officer: K9 Cyber! 🐾

K9 Cyber is a German Shorthaired Pointer with a nose for electronics! He has been specially trained in electronic detection, assisting officers in locating digital devices and electronic evidence during investigations.

Officer Underwood and K9 Cyber have been partners since November 2023, developing a very close relationship along the way. When asked to describe their relationship, Officer Underwood summed it up simply: “Velcro. I cannot go far without him.”

One of Officer Underwood’s favorite parts of being a handler is getting to bring his best friend to work with him!

When Cyber is off duty, he enjoys chasing birds, playing with his tennis ball, and relaxing at home with his family, snuggling on the couch with his sisters.

Help us show K9 Cyber some love and leave him a hello below! 👋

🐾 Ready to Adopt: Rhea 🐾

Rhea is a beautiful young Lab mix (about 1 year old) with a sturdy build, playful spirit, and a heart full of love.

She adores her people and loves being close—whether you’re out on a walk, relaxing at home, or just going about your day, Rhea is happiest by your side. She walks well on a leash and enjoys exploring the world with her humans.

This sweet girl also has a fun, silly side and is obsessed with squeaky toys. She’ll toss them in the air and entertain herself (and you!) for hours.

Rhea does well with other dogs but can be an enthusiastic player, so she’ll do best with slow introductions and compatible playmates.

She will be spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations prior to adoption. Please share to help her find the forever home she deserves.

🐾Ready to Adopt: Meet Mr. Kitty Parker 🐾

This sweet 6-year-old boy is calm, gentle, and very talkative. He loves to “chat” with his people while following them around and supervising daily life.

Parker enjoys being near his humans, lounging in sunny windows, and relaxing on his cat tree. He’s affectionate without being demanding and makes a wonderful, easygoing companion.

He gets along well with other cats and respectful dogs. He's been patiently waiting for his forever family since April.

Already neutered, microchipped, litter box trained, and soon to receive his rabies vaccine, Parker is ready to go home.

Please share to help him find the forever home he deserves.

🐾 Ready to Adopt: Sallie Mae 🐾

Sallie Mae is a beautiful 10-month-old Yellow Lab mix with a heart as big as her smile.

Friendly, affectionate, and wonderful with other dogs, she has never met a stranger. She loves being with people, enjoys playing fetch, walks nicely on a leash, and keeps a clean kennel. One of her cutest quirks is the adorable little monkey noises she makes when asking for treats or attention!

Sallie Mae has been at the shelter longer than any other dog currently in our care, and she's more than ready for a family to call her own.

She will be spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption.
💜 If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion, Sallie Mae is waiting to meet you at the Siloam Springs Animal Shelter!

Please share to help her find the forever home she deserves.
