SEVERE WEATHER IS EXPECTED! PLEASE PLAN NOW!!!!

The latest visible satellite pictures show us the boundary of interest that will become the primary focus for severe weather this afternoon. This boundary is likely to settle a little more to the south and southeast and reach the Missouri River and I-70 before stalling out... pretty much right over metro STL. This boundary will become a key player for the isolated to scattered intense severe storms we expect to develop this afternoon and early this evening. I am really concerned about areas along and 30 to 50 miles either side of the Missouri River in Missouri.... and along and south of a line from Jerseyville to about Staunton in IL. Those are APPROXIMATE guides... not exact locations... but that gives you an idea of the region where the greatest risk may end up focusing this afternoon....before it builds southeast across southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.

Again... this is a day to stay weather aware. Not everyone will see the dangerous storms. Many folks may happily miss them. But the communities that get in the path of one of these storms could be hit quite hard with large, destructive hail, wind and a couple of tornadoes. And these tornadoes, if they occur, would not be the small, weaker ones we've seen so far this year. These could be much more intense and much larger.

Folks should have multiple ways to receive warnings and check back frequently as the day progresses. Things will unfold pretty quickly and there is still wiggle room on the exact firing line and timing of the most significant threat....so everyone needs to be prepared.

The SPC has significantly shifted the level 3 to the east, and it now completely covers not only Lincoln County, but the entire surrounding region as well. This shift continues to show increasing confidence in a more widespread severe weather event later today.

Timing has continued to be refined. Current expectations place the primary window for Lincoln County beginning around 5pm and continuing through the evening hours. That said, earlier development cannot be completely ruled out if storms are able to initiate ahead of the main system.

This is the most significant chance for severe weather we have had this spring, and all agencies should be prepared for the potential of multiple rounds of storms and rapidly changing conditions.

What is certain is that storms will develop quickly to our west this afternoon and track east across the state. The overall setup supports an environment capable of producing severe storms, and confidence continues to increase that at least some portion of the warned area will see impactful weather.

The chance for rotating supercells in front of the main line has increased. These storms would pose the greatest tornado threat, along with the potential for large hail. As the system evolves, storms are expected to transition into a more linear mode, which will shift the primary hazard to damaging straight line winds, with embedded circulations still possible within the line.

Given the timing, this event will likely impact the evening commute and early nighttime hours, which can increase risk to the public. Messaging should emphasize situational awareness, multiple ways to receive warnings, and having a plan in place before storms arrive.

A strong cold front will lead to the development of severe thunderstorms over northwest Missouri this afternoon. These storms will track southeast into the area this evening into late tonight. Thunderstorms will weaken, but exactly where and how soon remains uncertain. Check weather frequently to ensure you catch the latest updates and have multiple ways to receive warning information.

Shortly before 5:30 this evening your Northwest Fire Volunteers were dispatched to the intersection of Hwy O and Corso Rd for a vehicle fire. The vehicle was fully involved upon arrival. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the vehicle and the surrounding ground area. Hwy O was closed for a short period while crews worked the scene.
Thank you to our volunteers, Hawk Point Fire Protection Dist., Lincoln County 911 - Troy Mo and Thornhill Towing for your assistance.
Due to the remote location, Hawk Point was an Automatic Mutual Aid. The driver of the vehicle was able to exit the vehicle without injury.

Erratic fire conditions are likely again on Sunday afternoon from a combination of strong winds and low humidity. Leave burning to the professionals and reduce the risk for open flames and sparks.

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅThe Silex area will see some smoke lingering this morning from the Conservation Departmentโ€™s controlled burn in Logan yesterday. Please donโ€™t let the smell of smoke spark your interest today, PLEASE DO NOT BURN!!!๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

The combination of low humidity, gusty southwesterly winds, and dry vegetation will lead to Elevated to Critical Fire Danger today, meaning fires could easily get out of control. Therefore, outdoor burning is strongly discouraged today.
